Best Pro Advice You've Gotten

I was given the following advice from Cisero Murphy when I was 15 years old.

"Pool is a game, not an occupation. Finish school."

"Don't be obsessed with the game of pool. If you're going to obsessed about anything make sure it's intelligence or kindness - not pool."

I think he made a lot of sense.

Blackjack, is there anyway I can contact you in private? For some reason I can't send you a PM.

Its all or nothing, everytime you play, Some people pay to be a spectator in thier own game... Being a great player has a great advantage... ;)

"Learn to play centerball, without side english-- first."
--Sarah Rousey
It was too late for the "first" part, but this helped my game alot. It simplifies the whole game, like someone else said.

Thank you Sarah

Wow, you were actually listening?? That is amazing. I'm glad I could help you.

I would say the best advice I ever got was when I was younger. Jean Balukas told me to "stick with it". I'm sure she said that to every young kid that she met, but it really meant something because it made me feel like this incredible, hall of famer, saw some talent.

The best advice I got was from Nick Varner. He told me the best thing to do to help out my game would be to take a couple of weeks off and then quit.

Some really great pool advice I was given a long time ago. I think about it frequently, but still haven't taken this good advice.

Take up Horseshoes, close counts in that game.

I'm not Sarah Rousey, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few times, so I feel like I am capable of giving this advice:

Be yourself and STOP PRETENDING SLIMEBALL. You are so pathetic.

Your Welcome.

From Diana Minor on 9-Ball:

"Whatever you do, make sure you get on the correct side of the object ball!"

so very true.
if you get on the proper side, position comes somewhat naturally. if you dont get on the right side, it is a whole lot harder.

From Tom "Dr Cue" Rossman:

"Its work! To become a great player, it takes work!"

Getting on the right side of the object ball is kind of difficult if you just gave it the finger in the previous rack. I'm not sure which is worse, getting on the wrong side of the table (having table pissed at you) because of cussing at one of the pockets or cussing at and giving the finger to the cue ball. You are talking about the object ball though. I don't think I cuss at the object ball much so I have a better chance of being on the good side of it.

I think it was Jeff Carter who told me. "You know those shots that almost look like they could go? Where you aren't quite sure that the object ball will fit past another ball but it might. Well if you shoot it like it will go then most times it will go just fine." I guess he was saying don't give up on a tough shot before you stroke it.

Best advice I took to heart:

"When your playing its just you and the table;
it is like a women, you are in control...
Why would you let someone else f*ck your women?"

I dont know why, but this really put things in perspective for me.

A country club tycoon once gave me some profound advice:

"Be the ball. Na na na na na na. Be the ball."

- Ty Webb

Changed my whole outlook.

Rodney Morris made it clear to me how important it is to accelerate through the cueball on ever shot, and that that's the point of follow-through. I think at the time I would occasionally not truly accelerate through, then follow through a long distance, which didnt do squat. If you watch Rodney play, it looks like he is pushing the cueball wherever he wants cause he accelerates on every shot.

Best advice I ever got wasn't from a professional per say...but a damn good player and BCA instructor...

"All the shape in the world will do you no good if you don't make the damn shot..."

and

"Just like golf...play it where it lies."

I no longer get nearly as frustrated when I hook myself in a run out.
