I have never been to a pro pool event. I have saved up some money to go and check one out. Is there one you like in particular? Located in canada, so looking for a north American tournament. Maybe one where I can meet some players too? Derby city perhaps? Us open? I was going to go to mosconi this year but I wanted to check out Vegas, Florida isn't in the cards this winter. Thanks for any recommendations!

Turning Stone is always a good one. Great access to players and the January tournament gets a better draw than the August/September one. Jayson Shaw is always there and Fedor has often made it too. SVB used to but might not have left on good terms. It is also completely free, though you are in a casino so it might cost you.

The super billiards expo in Oaks, Pennsylvania in April is also good. Not free but also a part of a huge vendor event so it offers a lot.

Your choice depends on how important it is to you to see the most elite players. If that's a high priority, you will see a lot more of the top players at Derby City than at any regional event. Of course, the US Open is even better than Derby City if you're willing to go as far as New Jersey.

If Vegas is what you have in mind, however, I'd suggest the World 10-ball, usually contested in March.

Derby City is the best one to start with, coming from Canada.

The World 10-Ball, when it is in conjunction with the large CSI leagues, is in Las Vegas and has a lot of vendors.

The International Open (now in St. Augustine, FL) is also a good event to see as it usually has all the top players and several events besides the 9-ball. There will be an amateur 9-ball tournament this year.

Bob and Stu both nailed it. I’ve been around for almost 40 years now and been to most everything. I can’t add anything more than they said, I can only reassure anyone that they are both spot on.

Have fun!

If you choose the January 2025 Derby City Classic, you'd better book your hotel room very soon. There's a special rate of $128 for attendees who use Caesars.com and include the promotion code provided on derbycityclassic.com, but it nearly always sells out by November, after which you'd either get nothing, pay a few hundred dollars a night for a room, or stay somewhere other than the host hotel.
