OK,
Where's the players room in Fresno. Get there on biz sometimes.

Found Classic Billiards and they seemed OK.

Just wondering if there is an action room in town.

Steve

I played in Fresno for a BCA season and never found really good rooms there. Just bar boxes all over the place. If you go a bit further north to Modesto and even Turlock and I think Merced have a few decent places. Give me a call at 209-482-7768 if you need some help when you get to this area.

There is Diamond Billiards right off of 99 and Ashlen. But I would check out "The Rack" off of blackstone, they have quite a few players and pretty solid tables. Merced only has one pool hall left, but there are some players in there that you might find playable.

You could try Combos in Clovis. Nice clean room, but I don't know if you will find much action. There is also another one on Blackstone besides the Rack. Used to be Blackstone Billiards, I think it is now another Diamonds Billiards.

yeah that's probably the room near there to play in...

There used to be one called park's billiards in visalia, but Park finally closed it down a couple of few years ago. that's also about 35 miles south of Fresno.

The best one I found when I was stuck out that way was on Blackstone, but I can't remember the name of it. maybe it was diamond.

You might get a little action out that way. They have a USPPA tourney there weekly.

Whenever I'm in town, I usually go to The Rack. But from what some of the folks tell me, a lot of the players are starting to go to the other room north of The Rack, also on Blackstone. Of course I can't remember the name or the cross street.

There was also a bangers room on the main road that goes from Fresno to Clovis. My memory is foggy on this one too but I think it was called Champion Billiards.

Classic billiards on the corner of shaw and willow in clovis is where all the players hang out. You can find just about any kind of action in that room on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Other action is just a phone call away.

Steve, I was in Lemoore from the beginning of July to the middle of September last year and I made the trip to Fresno just about every day. I would have to say that there is not one pool hall that all the regular players hang out in. Most of the better players travel between "The Rack" on Blackstone on tuesdays for there tournament, Classic Billiards in Clovis on Saturday's becasue of there tournament, and Diamond Billiards on Blackstone for there diamond table.
My suggestion to you is check out all three spots because its only about ten minutes apart. The hall that you will run have the best chance on running into them is Classic Billiards.
To sum things up, I wasnt looking for a big action game or anything, I was just going to play and get used to playing on a 9 foot table again. I really didnt have a problem finding a 9 or 10 ball game for 10 a game, only about four people play one pocket so that is a little bit tough to find.

All in all, every place I went too treated me great and I would recommend any of them. Only bad thing about trying to match up with someone, they will always ask you what your number is? I had no clue what to say so they were all thinking I was on the hussle. I guess in the area they have a big handicapping system and everyone uses it to judge each others speed.

Yeah it's called the usppa....

I was stationed up at lemoore when I got sent to GTMO, when I got back from GTMO I was getting out and had already moved my wife and newborn daughter down south, so I was staying in bachelor's quarters during the week and coming home on the weekends.

I would drive into Fresno most nights and play and I started playing in a few of the USPPA tourneys there. They were nice to me and started me out as a 100. lol. I guess officially they could only start me out as an 80 but I had to play as a 100 in their tourneys...

Rackem, I probably stopped in Aldolfo's 7 or 8 times while I was down there and I never saw anything going on. I figured that was were the locals hung out there because they advertised on there sign "home of the league 8 ball champions". Out of all the times I was there, I would run into the same old lady playing in the back room and that was the only pool player there, the rest of the people were mostly military, drinking there beers and having fun. I really didn't want to play on 8' tables anyways, my goal was to play on 9' tables since I rarely get the chance to play on them in my area.

Jaden,

They made me a 100 also, then they raised me after I won. Didn't know how the handicap system worked and since I didn't play on a 9 footer in probably 4 years it didn't bother me. After they raised me and I started playing a little bit, I sorta lost my concentration like when someone has a new stick and they cant miss a ball for a week and then they go back to there old habits. Well that's what happened to me and I think I should have been lowered, but that's handicapping, lol.

Take care

Funny story about Gerado. I went into Fresno for the sole purpose of finding him and getting lessons from him. I didnt know it at the time, but I ended up playing one of his friends one pocket at Diamond Billiards and he told me about a tournament at the rack the following night.

Well I showed up at "The Rack" the following night and signed up for the tournament and next thing you know a few of the players came up and said "your that navy guy aren't you". Sorta made me feel good if someone is talking about my playing ability so of course I said yes. Well next thing you know Phillipino gentleman by the name of Jerry came up and asked I wanted to play one pocket afterwards and I said sure.
He asked me what I was doing in the area and I told him that I was looking for Geraldo Jamito so I could get some lessons. He snickered and said "Thats me". Yeah, my mouth dropped, but I figured for $20 a game it is well worth playing him. I actually came out on top that night and before we left for the night, I asked him politely if he was still giving private lessons and he politely told me with somewhat of a snicker "no, I'm not giving you lessons, you don't need them". I was sorta disappointed, but then I actually felt pretty good about my game for him to say that.

Gerado and I played a few more times after that, he got his money back plus a little bit more. Let me say this though, I learned a lot from watching him and he is a total class act to compete against so I think it was money well lost and it gave me some incentive to start to play again.
