Betmore's Basement was in the home of Williebetmore, alias Donald Wardell, M.D., in Indiana. I believe the doc moved a few years ago to South Carolina to be close to one of his children.

That's right. I was lucky enough to play in the Betmore Basement on many occasions. It was a wonderful setup. I also recall going to a party there in which the attendees included Monica Webb, Helena Thornfeldt, Nesli O'Hare, Jeanette Lee, Jeff Beckley, George Breedlove and Mark Griffin.
I'm guessing Don, a delightful man and dedicated pool enthusiast who collaborated with Mark Wilson on the exceptional book "Play Great Pool", hasn't lived in that house for at least six years.
I've stayed at Doc's house, too....I think 2007. What gracious hosts he and his lovely wife are.

but Danny DiLiberto stayed there for the weekend, too. What a great time listening to his stories over morning coffee. Then 2 dinners with Jeanette and some playing time at her lair. Just another weekend. ho humI owe Don a big favor. I miss him.

I too owe and miss Don ... When Marks book first came out I asked Don to sign the copy I ordered. After some convincing (Don is a very humble man and was reluctant to sign "Mark's book" even though he is listed as co-author) he graciously agreed and made some arrangements with Mark (iirc they lived a ways apart). When the book arrived Mark and Don had each written a full page dedication, one on each side inside the front cover. It's one of my treasures on the bookshelf (and it certainly makes it's way onto the table for ongoing lessons).
For any who may have missed the excitement, search for old threads where williebetmore (Don) and breakup (Bill Johnston, may he RIP) bicker about their pool games and other curiosities .... OK I'll get you started:

I must have missed something major. i have no clue what this feud is about. from what i gather they played some at the DCC, and it sounds like things were left unsettled. i love watchin this unfold, funny stuff. Can someone fill me in on what this is all about?
