I am here in Germany for medical reasons-on a serious note, i'm not dieing or anything that serious but i've devloped some sort of systemic arthritic condition i'm getting diagnosed-at least thats what it looks like. its been cold i hurt all over most days(when i dont i been playing pool some) so i been on AZB quite a bit the past couple weeks. i'll know in a week or 2 whats wrong with me, its came on rather fast just the last 12-14 weeks.

Sorry - maybe has already stated this but in the attempt to push the over....

If someone NEEDS the money on the line to focus, you'd better practice more for when the money isn't there. Bert would say, "You have a built in excuse for losing."

If you're only good when the money is there - how much - $5? $50? $500? Eventually you get nothing out of $50 the same way you now get nothing out of $5.

What am I practicing for when there is nothing on the line?, if nothing is on the line then it makes little difference whether I win or lose. Fun players can jack off with one another all they want and I will just practice by myself and improve. There is one thing more important then money to me when I play and that is self improvement, running more racks, high runs and stuff like that are the ultimate prize for me but doing it while playing for something certainly makes it more meaningful.

Hope you get to feeling better Fatboy. I'm guessing it's your back? I fight similar problems with my back. I'm hoping that science can catch up with my and I can get an entire back transplant! Take care.

no thats the scary part, my whole body hurts like i was in a car accident. this in addition to my back issues, its probably why my back hurt worse than it should have.

They used to have kids to work the farms.. now, it sounds like the kids are to keep us from falling apart. Better get one of your three into medicine. Congrats, btw. ;)

Lol yeah, a little free medical care would be nice down the road! I like the way you think!

Ruh roh! It looks like I'm going to have to cover Fatboy's bet. I can't believe more people didn't come in barking about their scores and how "cash is where it's at"

Either one's fine.

I just love to play, period. I would prefer to gamble, but playing for fun is OK, too. I practice by myself most of the time, just because I love the game and I've gotta hit some balls.

I have a 9' Diamond Pro in my basement and friends come over on occasion. We play for fun half of the time and gamble real cheap the other half. I just enjoy when someone comes over whether it's for fun or for $10 or $20 sets(not to brag, but my friends get huge spots when we gamble). I'm usually practicing by myself, so playing someone is very enjoyable(drinking some beer doubles the enjoyment).

All that being said, gambling tends to make you bear down and focus more. I'm not going to say that the higher the bet the better I play. What I will say is the higher the bet the harder I'll try. The more you have at stake tends to determine how serious you play. This is the reason that most of the better tournament players are also the ones who've gambled a lot going in to the tournament. They have a competetive edge going in because they've been in that element mentally leading up to the event.

It's all about the game of pool to me, it's fun no matter the circumstances. But if you've got a decent wager on the line and you come through in the clutch, it's down right rewarding!

If you really think that is why some players stroke their cue in the air, you really have no clue. In fact, your other statements clearly show that you have no clue whatsoever. You just make up whatever excuses that sound good to you because you don't have enough faith in your own game to make any $$ off it. Wonder if you play poker for free also??

Gambling, alcoholism and homosexual activity are all learned behaviors. Those three behaviors usually come with some level of Alpha Male intimidation factor, which you fail at, but congratulations on the ones you have mastered.
