They lurk in all rooms where money passes hands. They usually are breathing, sometimes smoking or drinking, they wear cloths that either are clean or dirty and they look funny. :)) If you see em please let us know if they are in the north, south, east or west. :)))))) Sounds like some of the people in my office. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yes, please "warn" us about anyone who might offer to play a game of pool for... gulp ...money ....gasp. I just hope nobody fitting that description comes around here. Who knows what kind of horrible events could unfold if that were to happen. lol ;)

pretty soon guys will be uploading live video from their cell phones of guys come thru the front door and asking "how does this guy play?" :)....LOL

I'd much rather listen to stories about pool room action than the innapropriate blathering of pool room detectives ruining potential action. But I guess with a screen name and avatar like yours, I might be expecting to much.

Pool Sleuth you wouldn't bet water is wet so why do you concern yourself with what "players" do with their own money.

Many of the best players on the pro tour today have gambled and been on the road to provide a living for themselves and their families. Nits like yourself prevent any action even happening at all. Maybe league play is more your speed.

Dude!, Why would anyone ever gamble there paycheck?, unless they have a gambling problem, are stupid, don't need the money....etc

Sounds like to me that you got stung at one point trying to be a pool "hustler"?

Like I've said before, for there to be a gambling situation, there has to be 2 willing parties. Everyone that loses money, thought they should win the money before the game started.

If your scared, don't gamble. If you don't know how to make a good game, then don't. Above all else, DON'T get involved in peoples games that DO know what they are doing.

Worked with a guy named Cliford one who is as you discribe. Had a Gambling Problem. He would try sand borrow money from co workers to buy for for the family til payday.

When ask if he was going to the Horse Track that weekend he would say yes. When ask with what moey he would reply.

The Gambling Fund, as apprently Gambling was more important than the Wife & Two Kids....

I don't look at gambling as the "problem", I feel it's the personality. If people are going to self destruct, they will find a way to do it by gambling, drinking, drugs, infidelity, whatever. Gambling in itself, is innocent. People who can't, or won't control themselves will find a way.

Your co-worker sounds like he was looking for an escape. I know people who started gambling for fun, lost money, then tried to make it back by continuing to take larger risk. I never knew anyone to get back to even this way, let alone make any money. Casinos are built on this mind set.

The best gamblers I know made very good plans. Kind of like a business plan. They map out how much to bet, what game, who, or where to play, and what to do if things change along the way. These guys weren't the type to take pot shots or buy Lotto tickets.

So do you think that getting involved in action that is none of your business is going to prevent guys like this from losing their paycheck? A sad pathetic gambler like you describe has a disease, and he will find a way to lose his paycheck no matter what. Stories about degenerate gamblers losing their shirts don't justify interfering with the action of a stand up player. Why is it always the people who wouldn't bet a nickel they are alive that mess with other peoples action?

Could get ugly

Pool Sleuth if you knock action be prepared to suffer bad karma. Remember you are in the Pool room!!!

Personally I don't gamble (that much). But the beautiful irony of it is that both parties tend to think they have something over the other which always makes for great entertainment.

usta be a place around here where the best player would pull up out front and watch ppl play from out front looking through the large plate glass window from
his beemer while talking on his cell with his girlfriend who ran the place , she was inside letting him know who to watch,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,btw, he owned the place too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,lol

also had a video camera on the action table to see who was playing well without being obvious
