Beware of new users who have "just what you are looking for"

Does AZB make our emails available to other users? After posting wanted threads, I’ve had a few people emailme directly. Creeped me out.

Edit: here’s the email of the most recent incident: geacelopzy@gmail.com

leto, no, email addresses are not public.

We had another scammer reach out to someone on the site this week, claiming to have the cue that someone wanted. He was claiming he was a well known user here on the site.

The user who was looking for the cue thought it was a little suspicious and didn't make the deal.

Just a reminder again, that we do not make user's email addresses public. If someone reaches out to you via email, there is a good chance that it is a scam deal. Asking them to verify their account through the site is a good way to weed out some of the scammers.

Just got back into the forum and upon listing 3 sugartrees got 2 potential scammers

You are discouraging new users from responding to "wanted".
Thus preventing a user a potentially good deal.
Everybody loses.

Just sayin.

I am open to suggestions that handle the issue better.

Let me think through it.
But I don't know enough about the capabilities of your website.
One solution might be to restrict new users from posting in the want/for sale forum until they are vetted by posting a certain number of posts in the general forum. They can reply to for sale items but not an others. This way a legitimate new user can buy something. But a scammer cant respond to the "wanted" section.
I don't know; just thinking off the top of my head.

+1 (928) 651-9652 I made a post with my number and he contacted me telling me he was Josh Gambler67 so I stupidly believed him😔I just really wanted to own a JW finally.
Same guy just got me on a ob shaft he supposedly had. I don't know how he got my email but he emailed from joshualeehana@gmail.com
He said he was 67gambler on az who is a gold member so I zelled him the $100. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I broke my rule & should have used paypal & Not f&f where u have no recourse. In the old days on az if somebody screwed you they would get a visit from an az member in their hometown. I feel like a real fool for going for this idiots hustle.

Folks ... It is getting really bad ... every time I post something for sale I get scammers trying to scam me.
Please be very careful to who you send money to.
Dont fall for that check that is more than what you asked.
Why cant the government do something about the rampart theft on the internet?

One thing you could do is make it a requirement for all sellers To show the user name and the date on a piece of paper next to the item they are selling

Anyone deal with a jackass with these email:
Hotrodrabbit@aol.com
joshualeehana@gmail.com

He scammed me out of $150. I was wanting a Breakrak and he replied to my email address. I was stupid and didn’t do my due diligence and I paid for it. Is there a way to track someone down using an email address?
I’m on an iPhone so I couldn’t get an IP address. There are some limitations with ips that tick me off.
He answers to Joshua but I’m sure it is an alias.

Also had someone trying to scam me under the name "Joshua Cullen" there's definitely a pattern here.
I've been looking for some yellow micarta and I was contacted by yesterday by the same guy saying he bought something from another member (acedonkeyace) and said he had some.

I read through here and I am not sure what has or hasn’t been tried, but I wanted to share a couple of thoughts. First, as long as something has value, someone is trying to figure out how to get it for as little as possible or even free. One of the unique, but not exclusive things pool has as a hobby is more people play pool in a business sometimes with their own equipment and often with other people. Even though I wasn’t personally involved in pool for the last few decades, I understand the basics as it relates to a hobby or for some a deeper investment of money and even more valuable , time. Some people owned pool rooms and in many they had a person who did repairs and they sold cues/butts/shafts or allowed other people to sell items there in the pool rooms as well. This method of commerce wasn’t broken, but people pioneered selling from a computer screen and that became popular (convenience being a big part) and eventually online sales became mainstream. I know, get to the point. I only see two solutions. If you want to be a seller, at a minimum have a DBA (doing business as name) and be willing to publicly list at that business name, your name and a contact number. Most of you have your information all over the internet already anyway. Another idea, designate a couple of people (confirmed members) in each major city as brokers. Again they would have to be willing to provide some basic, but verifiable information and they can act as a go between buyer and seller. If you are the buyer and seller, give a small convenience fee (perhaps even extending there silver/gold status on AZBilliards) to the person assisting with the transaction. If you are a “broker” maintain an account with positive feedback through the website. I know I am a newby (some people are keen to remind me), but I am still part of the pool playing community. As with any hobby we can make it shit and contribute to people avoiding getting involved/invested or we can contribute to promoting a supportive, inclusive community that values a cool place to be involved and conduct transactions. This free advice can be used in about any discussion board ever made for almost any hobby that has buying/selling.

Edited: fixed some grammar/spelling

To clarify one point. Obviously, sales of one or two items by members (wouldn’t make sense that they provide a DBA/company name). That is where the brokers or city specific ambassadors would fill in at. To keep it honest they wouldn’t get a cut (gasp, clutches pearls). It would be volunteer only (except for maybe AZBilliards site support, like silver or gold memberships).
