Big deal if my cue looks nice

I started this related post. It is representative of what I have seen in most USA pool rooms.

Now, in Japan, my pool room has about 10-20 regulars. About 5-10 of them are shooting with a 1500 - 2000 USD custom cue! The level of play is higher with this group also.

For me, I just really enjoy a nice piece of wood. In a pen or box, I'm not able to really enjoy or use it much. In a cue I can do both.

The only thing that is "lame" as you mention, is when a "newbie" with a total of 2 posts comes on a pool forum, and complains and insults other pool nuts with a bunch of child like posts because his choice of shooting eqipment is so superior in the choices that others shoot with. I like fancy and as you can see from my very prominent signature....SNEAKY's too!! I"m sure there is some guy thinking how can someone buy a cue, even a Sneaky, when the pool halls provide them for free !!!!!! That could also be considered lame as you say !!!!

Childlike posts? I was putting forth my opinion in a related thread. As for my other post, I was giving a positive review to instructional material. "Newbie"? Yeah, so what? Didn't know I had to comment a certain amount of times in order to give my opinion. The other guys who commented to my posts took my comment in stride, but you appear to have had a tantrum. But why not, I am just some random guy posting on the internet after all. So a word of advice...don't let some random guy on the internet get you so upset. Life will be a lot more enjoyable then:wink:

why do people care about what their car, house, etc.etc. looks like. its all personal preference. for some people a good looking cue can keep them interested in the game and give them a little boost in confidence. for some people, they dont look at their cue at all. why do some people mod their car cosmetically and some don't?

Hmmmmm

The point that you so clearly missed, is that you don't need to insult folks in order to have an opinion on a forum. You could have just asked why do folks spend so much money on cues and you would have gotten the answer you were looking for. Instead, you mentioned "I think having spending hundreds of extra dollars on a flashy looking cue is pretty lame" Your words, not mine. Then you immediately apologize by advising, "sorry if this offends anyone, but just telling it how I see it."

But then I tell you how I see it, and you no likey it too much, huh? See the difference now?
I responded in kind and you were a little put off by it. You had an opinion and then I had an opinion.
But your still a newbie, I don't know why that is offensive and you had a "tantrum" over that....its a factual statement. But being new, ususally most folks like to test the waters first without insulting MOST of the persons on this site as well also a great number of good custom cue makers that sell cues here as well. Is it lame that folks like to have nice things? Is it lame that a cuemaker wants to make an honest living making and selling fancy cues? Is it lame that we players like to put money back into the sport? Do you see my point at all? But hey, it's only your second post....so let me be the first to say welcome to AZB ! It is a cool place...... Happy Thanksgiving too !!

I've seen this custom cue turn heads from afar:

So much so if people will look at its details closely

Must love pool to post!!

I think there is a rule or some such statement in the BCA rulebook that says you should always attempt to have FUN. I think there should be a rule or some such pledge or statement from new members that they must LOVE pool and respect all pool players. Why would you enter a forum and criticize all of pools issues. Yes billiards is at a crossroads and always has been in limbo. But this is our game and our passion. We need more people like DR. Cue, Tom Rossman? Did I get that right? You know the guy that puts on the trick shot seminars in Vegas. Hardest working man in the pool industry IMO. Life is too short to constantly rock the boat. Be happy.

This will be the last response you'll get because this whole argument between us is just silly. You claim that you were making a point in your first response to me. Okay, then scroll back up to that first message. All I see is you having a fit, with your multiple exclamation marks and finger-pointing. I don't think it is a stretch to assume you have an anger issue. Say what you will, but I stand by all my words in this thread.

I've always had a thing for wood, be it furniture, chess pieces, a cocobolo nunchakus I acquired 30 years ago and still cherish, and now cues.

I love these beautiful wooden pieces of art, and the fact we get to hold and play a very relaxing game with them is just incredible.

I have no problems paying a premium for what I like.

Different strokes for different folks.

However, think of a musician. Preferably, a guitarist.

It's along the same lines. I won't drag this out as some people catch my drift.

Ok

WOW. Anger issues because I use exclamation points !! LMAO !! Your watching way too much Seinfeld (not that there is anything wrong with that) , it is only a stroke of the keyboard to put it there....no biggie. Of course, you stand by your words, because they were "Child like" as I said earlier. Who else writes that stuff is "lame" when they can't afford the stuff others can, except someone who is young and naive, you know "childish"

Let me guess, you are probably a 22 year old, white guy, some college but didn't graduate, maybe still going part time, but still living with parents and likes to use the word "lame" whenever somebody or something displeases him. Time to cut the apron strings junior and grow up.

I usually buy sneaky-petes. The last being a Predator. I later sent
it off to Jimmy Reeves and he put a linen wrap on it. Other than that
I keep it simple. If I did not have a kid in college ( an 18 yr old lol ) and
another in grade school I might be looking through different eyes. For
those who can afford it thats cool. The cuebuilders need work just
like the rest of us. If a cue is 2 grand a cuemaker cant spend but just so much time on it before delivery or they will go in the hole. I will say that I would not pay 2 grand for a cue even if I could. Some like Corvettes and others just want to get there. But I can see a custom built cue costing
thousands on labor alone.
