WPBA.com has posted some results for both the men's and women's events at the BCA Open, and there are some significant upsets already, mostly on the men's side.

1) Efren Reyes has lost to Kawabata, who finished 5/6 in last year's BCA Open.
2) Danny Harriman has lost his first match to someone named Weiselius.
3) George Breedlove, who finished 5/6 in last year's BCA Open, has beaten Jeremy Jones.
4) Tommy Kennedy has beaten Jose Parica.
5) Jennifer Barretta, #24 in the WPBA rankings, has beaten Jennifer Chen, who is #7 in the WPBA rankings.

Sounds like it has been quite a first day at the BCA Open in Vegas.

Kennedy > Parica does not shock me. Pretty good match I figure when those 2 get together in a tourney. Cash is another matter...

Eric Weiselius is a top Swedisch Player and is high ranked on the Eurotour Ranking.

Yes, Weiselius is a Swedish player and I think he is 19 or 20 years old. He has been competing in European Championships in junior and pupil divisions since he was a kid and I think he is the most succesfull junior EC player ever. Very talented and has a "natural stroke".

I looked at the flow chart and George Breedlove got beat by JJ. I wanted to see if he was going to have to play Brian Groce next,{they're both from Indy and used to run together. Sam

Ps thanks for the update

Hey sam how ya doin'. When they played each other in the final at the Spring Fling in Starkville it was a super entertaining match with Brian winning.

Hi Pel, They're always a great match to watch. I've been a big fan of George since he was 18. He came to a tournament I was running at Ball State and I had to play him. In one game I played safe on him and he jumped and made the shot, was hooked,
jumped and made the shot, was hooked, jumped and made the ball and got shape to run out. He beat me that day. I have beaten him a couple of times and I always enjoy playing him win or lose. I also have a tremendous respect for Brian. They are both great players. Sam

Hi Satman , when I looked at the Bracket it showed George won and is going to play Brian.

funny little story ..

When I moved to Indy in '96 to take a consulting job on contract to Eli Lilly in Information Systems, I started making friends through Pool and joined up on a team.

I started inquiring around about where the 'money games' were and who like to gamble. Some of the top Indy players offered to play me, but kept trying to short change the game by playing for nickel change, so I made the offer to play 2 or 3 of them for $1500 a set, cash, with a minimum put-up. They all backed down, but were to go get George to play me. It never did come about though, probably to my benefit.

But I did join a team that had taken 2nd 4 years in row for the city championship, and when I played for them, we won the league and the city championship.

After a year, I moved back to Wichita.

Hey Denny, I looked at the chart on A-Z again to see if I was dreaming. It shows JJ won. Your link shows George won. Either way I'd like to see this next match.
Scott, Indy has some pretty good players. Who were the guys you played with? I know about everyone who can play. That's around the time I was playing in the leagues there. Sam

AZB and WPBA.com both show a score of Breedlove 11, Jones 10. For some reason, though, the AZB bracket shows Jones advancing.

Sam ...l

I don't remember all the names, been too long. I did know a player named Sam back then though, I do remember that. I played mostly at a Pool place on the north side of the NE mall. I think it folded up later on though, at least I heard that. I played in monthly tournaments there. Had 8 foot tables with pretty tight pockets, if I remember right. I think 8 footers with tight pockets are harder to shoot on than 9 footers or bar boxes. I do remember a young and upcoming player there named Trey. I played some $100-300 sets there, but nothing bigger for some side action. I was told to go up north of Indy about 60 miles for some action, but never did, mostly because I did not want to go by myself.

In fact, the guy that used to publish a newsletter for the place about their tournaments and stuff, gave me the nickname Snapshot after I won a tournament there. Here in Wichita, I am Scott the Shot.

I played for a bar on east of there some, I keep thinking something like the Outer Limits, might be wrong on that. I became friends with a Pharmacist named Jim, and he is the one that steered me to the bar and the team there.

Your Post is wrong

I did not lose my first match or my last one as I did not play in the BCA Open but was invited to play it's obvoious that you have your facts wrong.

This guy must get his facts from Newsweek.

Danny,
This thread is 1 year old (check out the date on the top of the initial thread posting).

Thanks though for participating in the forum, I think most of the true pool fanatics REALLY appreciate input from the pro's. Ignore the poorly informed opinions of anonymous internet posters (like me) - AZB is a great way to have access the opinions of the pro's (you just have to wade throught the murk occasionally to get to them).
