Big tables or bar box

Yeah you can get away with a lot of mistakes on a bar box.
 
IMO both serve their respective purposes very well.

Players that play on a 7 footer are just as challenged and entertained as those that play on a 9 footer.

The additional area of playing surface only lets the balls roll further.

I like to play a more offensive game, so I prefer the bar box because there are usually more available shots. I've beat many good 9' players on nasty old Vallleys than they you might believe. I don't think 9' players have any significant advantage because they play on a bigger table. That mindset has cost many of them cash. Of course, I play mostly on 9' now because I old and need an easier game.:)

Depends on the game. I hate barbox 9ball, but LOVE barbox 8ball. Where I play most has Diamond boxes, and the short shelf HUGE pockets comment about boxes does NOT apply there. Tight quarters and 15 balls to navigate thru and around is the best to me. Even full rack banks is fun on a Diamond box (almost as many moves a 1P). That said, if I'm gonna play 9 or 10ball, 1P, banks, well, just about anything but 8ball....I wanna play on a 9 footer. I think 8ball is a bit easier on a big table, so, no no, on 9 ft 8ball.

I'm always amazed at the big table "snobbery" on this site....watch a champion play barbox 8ball, and then play 9 ft 9ball - no contest in my opinion which is the better game. What makes big table shooting SO much harder?? I don't really find it to be, but apparently since I play on the box a bunch I can get BIGGER spots on the 9 footers...lol

I'll tell ya how I really feel...
Take all them dinkey little want to be a pool table(s), stack'em in a big (hugh)pile and set them on fire:eek:, as a offering to the pool gods:grin:. They will be so pleased they will sent the big Roady down with a big stack of cash, to play everyone, any game they pick, with what ever spot they want until the ashes get cold....

Really; I have a long stroke, and because Im not that good going from 9fters and trying to play on the kiddy table really screws me up. Not to mention my table is a 5x10 and you can hit the ball like a crazy man and its never to hard (almost anyway:smile: )

I think this part of your statement is true for quite a few players, and it's funny watching someone who has all the control in the world on a big table struggle in a more confined space. Some guys (not saying you) have trouble bumping balls for breakouts and knowing the outcome. And that is one of the beauties of barbox 8ball.

Kinda like taking the best putter away from his home track and watching him become a mediocore putter right in front of your eyes.....;)

I've said it before and I still haven't changed my mind: When I was younger and could see a little better, I really enjoyed playing on a 9 footer. BUT, I still feel bar table 8 ball is the best pool game in the world. JMHO

and seeing you play on one, it's pretty obvious why you like them! When I saw you in Bradley your cueball control was spot on! Like watching Bobby play 8ball on a barbox....guys of your calibur are just flat out FUN to watch play 8ball on the little track! :thumbup: :p

Earl Strickland firmly stands by the idea that if professional tours switched to 10 footers, he'd never be beaten.

oh, and there is no question I'd rather have a 9 footer than a bar box... this almost isn't even a question. My goal is to feel as empowered on a pro table as I do when I shoot a bar box

Earl sounds like the Phil Helmuth pool - "if it weren't for luck, I'd never lose a hand". Strong talk, but just that - talk. Besides, he'd have to adjust all that GEAR he wears to a bigger table - that'd take awhile at least!!:grin:

I like both size tables. The 9' allows a lot more error in position play. And require those 'young eyes' on the long shots. 7' Valleys can make a B player look like an A player due to the pocket shelf. Diamond 7' tables with the deep shelf require a true player to master.They can make a 9' A player look like a B player if they aren't used to them.

chances are he's just got too much stroke for the smaller playing surface. on the barbox i really have to tone down my stroke, it has really hurt my 9ft table game.

7foot diamond tables are great in my opinion. i wouldn't say they could make an a player look like a b player though. if you normally play on 9 foot tables with reasonably tight pockets than playing on diamond 7 foot diamond table shouldn't be too different. it really just makes you stay on the right side of the shots. i think i'd like those tables a lot more if they tightened up the side pockets some.
