Ran The Set Out. Bill at that time was in his early 60's.:shocked2:
When it was over..Allen who didn't really know Bill,,or of him couldn't believe what had happened...but those who knew,,knew that Bill had done that very thing many many times
he was The Road Player , Back in the late 50's and early 60's--There's a story about Sailor playing Bill and sailor getting the best of him..but not playing him any more afterwards, saying that Bill Played too good
Both were legendary players of their era, but yet were rated just under Lassiter, Rood and Willis. Sometimes it's not just how good you are but how you match up against someone. For some reason for about 25 years nobody matched up good with Lassiter, except his road buddies George Rood and Don Willis. Luther once said that if he needed somebody to shoot one shot for his life then he wanted it to be Don Willis.
I walked into Rustys Poolroom on Northwest hwy in Dallas tx in the mid 80s. Buddy Hall was playing Wade Crane 21 ahead on the bar table for big number. I watched Wade put a 13 on Buddy before he missed . Buddy returned with an 11 on Wade .. That's the most racks i have ever seen run in my 50 yrs of being around pool . They where both playing so good !....
