That's good bait!
If someone asks how I play, says good shot or says that was close on a miss, I like to say, well I'm still learning. It's not a lie.
Sometimes I think people try to get in my head, even saying things like good shot, so I like to have this throwaway line. It lets me address whatever is said and move on with the game with a clear head. It doesn't even matter what their intention was, it's up to me do deal with the distraction and move on. It's multi use too. Sometimes a friend will be introducing me and saying I play good, I just say "Well, I'm still learning." The guys that get it will say something like "Aren't we all." Sometimes it calms or winds someone up. It's situational.
After missing a ball or something dumb instead of getting pissed off I'll just think it too. It's not an excuse and it allows me to get on with the game, kind of like how Efren would scratch his head and grin.
I tried scratching the back of my head like Efren when I made a mistake. All it did for me was give me a bald spot and tennis elbow!
