Biggest upset.

In Group 14.

Shawn Putnam lost his 2 games to

Ko Ping-I, a 16 year old qualifier who is the classmate of Wu Chai-Ching.

and Raj Hundal from England.

What really scares me is that these 15 and 16 year old Taiwan players have no fear and no real respect of the American "pros" or anyone else for that matter. They shoot world class pool at that age, they know it, and they simply beat on whoever their playing without the usual nerves jitters the American pro's usually get to count on from their unknown opponents. If at 15 and 16 years old these kids are doing that god forbid when they are 22, we will have a country full of Yangs and good freakin luck taking them all out to win the Worlds.

Confidence is such a major boon in this game, and the up and coming Taiwan players have huge confidence in themselves and their games. They dont choke and spend the first years of their lives trying to build confidence, they simply go out and slap down a few pro's as if to say "you aint so special". It is what I noticed in the Juniors, the Taiwan players were a bit better then the others but where they really dominated was with their no fear pro style of approach to the game that is only seen in the older top pro's like Archer in America.

There will never be respect on both sides on a World Tourney like this or for any title fight. :)

Reyes must win in Day 2.

Reyes must win and win both to keep his chances alive.

Efren Reyes (Philippines) vs Roman Hybler (Czech Republic)
Efren Reyes (Philippines) vs Adam Abdulrahim (Indonesia)

Please overlook my lack of knowledge about the WPC.... The WPC came along in the middle of my hiatus so I'm not up to date on how any of this works.... If Reyes has lost 2, what happens to him now? What does he have to do to continue on?

Thanks,
Timberly

Timberly, here's how the WPC works.

Sixteen groups of 8. Each group of eight plays a full round robin. In each group, it takes 28 matches (races to 5) until everybody has played everybody.

Upon completion of the round robin stage, the top four (based on record with racks won as the tiebreaker) in each of the sixteen groups advance to the knockout "sngle elimination" stage of the tournament, where players are seeded based on their performance in the round robin.

Then, the last 64 play on in single elimination format until there is a champion.

Hence, what Efren has to do is finish in the top four in his group. As he will play seven matches in the round robin, he'll probably need to go at least 4 - 3, so dropping his first two matches has placed him in danger of not reaching the knockout "single elimination" stage.

Thanks SJM, that definitely helped clear it up some. I knew there was a round robin stage and a single elimination stage but I wasn't sure how it all came together..... :)
