Ok, In TAP league monday night my teammate gets ball in hand, and in placing the cue ball lets it roll into another ball. The opposing player calls a foul and takes ball in hand. Although the league is cue ball fouls only, the rules also state that an accidental movement of another ball in the course of preparing your shot is not a foul and only gives the opponent the choice to leave the moved ball or put it back. BIH or not??:confused:

Sounds like a cue ball foul to me. The CUE BALL rolled into another ball. JMO. I don't know for sure though. Someone will. I am just taking a guess.

It's been my experience that the cue ball is always "live".
I did the same thing in a tournament and gave bih to my opponent.
It was awesome.

cOOp is correct. The cue ball is always live. If it touches another ball, that's illegal contact and BIH is awarded. In most cases, if you have the cue ball in your hand, and that hand touches another ball, it's a BIH foul.

Don't know what rules TAP uses but BCA calls it a foul.

4. When placing the cue ball, it is a foul to touch any object ball with the cue ball or your hand which holds the cue ball. "Hand" is defined as including the wrist up to a point where a wristwatch would normally be worn. If the foul involves only a single object ball your opponent has the option of restoration as described in Rule 1.33. If more than one object ball is involved, there is no restoration option.

The TAP rules are on-line. http://www.tapleague.com/rulebook.pdf In my opinion, they are really, really bad. They may have the answer to your question, but no one should base his answer on BCA, APA, WPA or any set of rules other than TAP rules.

Good luck.

I've read the rules and this "specific" infraction isn't precisely covered and therefore leaves room for interpretation. I'm going to ask to have the live ball rule in this league from now on. No more problem and I thanks you for you opinions. Don
