I'm heading over to a local carnival tonight, just in case they have the pool table set up anyone got some tips on how to win the game. I tried last year and finally quit after $30. I thought it would be easy to make 3 balls but between the table, the cue and the tiny pockets I couldn't get it done.

sounds like a game I played this week, except we spent a bit more than $30:mad::mad::mad: good luck, years ago i robbed a carnival pool game was in 83 or 84, i can't recall the specifics, i played just good enough to beat it, i was a C player then. the guy running the game was cool ended up talking to him most of the night,

GOOD LUCK TONIGHT!!!!

We used to beat that table all the time, and they'd ban us from playing, after we'd win all the big stuffed animals. :grin-square:

Break them softly, like Corey Deuel. Let the balls blossom out. You should then be able to run the 3 balls, no problem. ;)

well, in my experience there was never any chalk to be found. Even though many of the cues had no tips at all, some could be barely called a tip. Since miscues are part of the gaff, luckily I had a piece of green Masters in my pocket ( which is usual much to my wife's chagrin) andi just chalked up the bare ferrule discreetly. seemed to help enough to win the big unicorn... and no they did not like me much.

I remember seeing these tables at carnivals when I was in middle school and high school (96-02), but the few times I've been to carnivals or state fairs since then I haven't seen this set up at least here in Indiana. I never tried it back then because 1. I thought it was probably a gaff (which it is) and 2. I wasn't really even a competent player. I'd like to give it a go now though. Put a cube of chalk and a tip tapper in your pocket before you head out to the midway though.

As JAM said, just soft breaking and keeping all the balls at one end of the table.

yup play on half the table, thats solid advice. break them soft-mite take a couple tries to figure the correct speed but thats the trick to beating it. What she said reminded me of how i beat that game yeaars ago, it was 6 balls as i recall. wow i had forgot about that. glad this trhead popped up, cant recall what i won tho:confused::confused:

Find the cue with the best tip, scuff it if you can, chalk if you can, and use center ball and speed control to get good-enough shape. The table WILL roll off, so hit shots with enough pace to overcome it. Break soft to medium, enough to spread them into the open area of one half of the table.
The game exploits people who want to show off. Just don't do anything cute- accept a 5 foot shot over trying to go 2 or 3 rails for shape. The rails are not to be trusted.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully they will have it set up tonight, I'll post tomorrow, hopefully with a picture of my winning!

When I was 15 back in '94 I brought my own cue to the carnival game. The guy was cool with it. I won the first 2 games then he politely asked me not to play again. I haven't seen that game since. I'm guessing it's to much work to haul around the pool tables?

soft break, center ball to slightly below center ball hit on the cue, hit the center of the front ball from the center of the table parking the cue ball right about in that spot, should only need to play the bottom 2 corner pockets
good luck

Don't forget the cue ball will be a heavy cue ball so anticipate the action (difficulty with draw etc).. otherwise all my ideas were mentioned above - breaking soft and such. Oh and pick the best (of the worst) when you pick the table - but then still expect it to be just terrible from felt to rails to chunks missing from object balls.

I played once - wasn't smart enough to break soft - got in trouble - guy running the tables was already tell me "good try you can play again" as I banked the last ball in anyway. My friends were impressed but they aren't real pool players and didn't get that it should look easy if done correctly. Won a good sized stuff dog I gave to a friend for their dog to destroy.
