Billiard Chalk collecors' thread....let's trade!

I love this thread.

Do you, or anyone you know, have any nice round pieces for sale?

Josh

More by American Crayon Co.

Eureka chalk was also made by that company. Here are some examples...

Ever see this?

Spinks was patented 1897. Before this chalk was chalk, literally....calcium carbonate...like for the chalk board. Spinks contained abrasives to make "A clinging grip, to ball and tip."

Kling Tight chalk

I think this is my favorite chalk as I have Kling tables, although I do not think the name was a Johnny Kling reference...the box says "The Improved Schaefer Chalk," and Schaefer is dated 1895. Kling was pool champ AFTER Spinks chalk came about in 1897. Kling was 1909 champ, much later ...and who would care in 1909 about chalk from 1895? Still, very cool stuff. Off the scale rare.

Triangle, Kieckhefer

Augie Kieckhefer was a 3-Cushion champion, and his company made this Triangle chalk. The earliest boxes/labels are more orange looking. Round Triangle is one of the most rare chalks out there. Newer Triangle isn't really collectible because it's still made; if it doesn't say Kieckhefer, it's not old.

Posting for a friend...

This is chalk another collector wants me to sell for him; if you are interested you'd be paying him. He wants 50 shipped. The Tiza 21 and the Champion are rare; the others are a bonus.

Manhattan Club

This BBC Co. chalk came in varous styles. In the black and gold label seen at left, I have green and blue square and green and blue round. Add to this that they sold it in single-sided and double-sided form, and you have 8 different varieties. And that's with just one label style!

C'mon guys, you can post too...

Feel free to post pics of your chalk. This is another white piece, the only one I have ever seen outside of catalogs. German chalk imported for the BBC Co., circa 1900. And it's unused. What do you guys have?....

Marblas

Years ago a billiard antique auction came up with strange huge pink chalks with yellow labels that said Marblas. Instead of a dimple it had a groove across the open face. We finally figured out it was a cube of shaft slicking chalk. So collectors speeculated whether the maker also made tip chalk. Well, I finally found a few pieces and here it is.

Another chalk shape....

...the long rectangle. Made in Europe for European retractable chalk holders. The Euro style clips that held the chalk were huge clamps with screws, as opposed to American spring-metal designs. To fit these, big rectangular chalk was made to fit, like these:

A friend told me about this thread so I thought I would post something. I went on a spree of adding chalk to my collection. I have posted these before but for anyone new. Hunger Strike I like your chalk with an elephant on it. What brand is it?

J.E. Came chalks

Mike, I think the elephant chalk is Henin Aine, but I am two days' drive from looking at it. Here are some J.E. Came chalks:

Early National Tournament chalk: "In Utrumque Paratus"

I believe this is the earliest National Tournament Chalk. The first ads for it contained the similar Latin phrase "In Utrumque Paratus." This is a quote from Virgil which can be translated "in every way prepared." Many if not most of the re-labeled chalks you see in pre-WWII chalk are NTC. That makes this a historically important piece of chalk as it is not only possibly the earliest NTC label, it is also labeled on one side for the Gem Billiard Supply co. Add metallic ink and round shape and this unused chalk becomes something pretty special.

Bump for a good deal

This is chalk another collector wants me to sell for him; if you are interested you'd be paying him. He wants 50 shipped. The Tiza 21 and the Champion are rare; the others are a bonus.

These were shipped to me because a guy wanted to buy them here in town, but he lost his job, so I am just trying to sell them because they are going to have to be shipped anyway, to a buyer or back to the owner. Someone might as well get free shipping. The two bottom left chalks are worth the overall price by themselves. Yeah, I know, the guy from Mexico sells them cheap but his shipping is colossal and you have to buy thirty common chalks to get 'em......
