what do you folks think about abandoning eBay & doing our auctions on an AZ Billiards Auction site.

We can allow anyone (quality equipment only-leave the low class stuff on ebay) to play, but if any cheating happens, the perpetrator gets sued and permanently bannished.

Their are dozens of different items; Cues, Tables, Lights, Cases, Books, Videos, Accessories & whatever....

any input....????

Great idea to me. Might be tough for Mike to put it together but I think it could work.

Mr. Gremlin, you obviously don't know who I am. I do a lot of business in the Billiard World & on EBay. It costs me money to do that.

I'd just as soon spend that money by participating in a World Class Billiard equipment AUCTION, held by Pool Players for Pool Players. I had the idea that we (the members of this forum & others that participate in out sport ) get behind Mike & make a GREAT place to shop for equipment and or sell equipment.

To HELL with eBAY.....

Ceebee- I have seen your auctions, nicely done.
I think you have a good idea here too.

I would participate.

Harry,

Nobody insinuated that Mike should bear the burden for this. I believe it is just a great idea that is being proposed and a possible side income for Mike knowing his work situation. Just because you write LOL next to everything doesn't make it any less offensive. LOL :-)

I'm game, you can have my 10% Mike! Good ideas, I like where this is going!

This concept only works in an altruistic atmosphere, and with exposure to a large audience.

The seller must be willing to accept less profit from the sale in return for the satisfaction of selling to someone who will more appreciate the item. Knowledge is power, and chances are nobody here will be willing to bid/buy at an inflated price.

Further, being the discerning, opinionated people we are, most items offered will only appeal to the limited audience of people who appreciate that particular item. Therefore, the audience has to be pretty large before there'll be enough interested parties to bid up a good price.

Honestly, I believe that the concepts of "auction" and "knowlegeable, expert audience" are mutually exclusive.

AZBilliards an auction site.........

...That...is...a...great...ideal...

That is a good idea. I am not sure about the 10% thing though. What is Ebay charging nowadays?

I have put some thought in the past towards running a classied ads section of the site. I think I like the idea of the auction even more though.

Let me see if I still have some software around here to put something like that together.

mike - i'm a programmer and would be happy to help or to consult, if it's necessary.

Politically incorrect is never a bad thing Harry. Just seemed as though you were lumping everyone into the deadbeat category which I thought was unfair.
Still think it is a great idea.

I think the Auction idea is a real good one. It has a captured audience and on the same page is a way to keep AZ #1.

Great idea Cee Bee!! I am behind it 100% Let em know who the real honest people out there are. These folks know what fair market is for billiard related stuff. They know what a deal is when they see one. In this forum, the educated cunsumer really could be your best customer. I would be more than glad to throw Mike a bone once in a while, after all, he does a terific job with this site. Remember Cee Bee, you don't get hit by the tomatoes until you stand up. Wipes off real easy. Great idea, go for it Mike.

Mike, here is an idea for ya. Cues must be listed for the minium amount they will sell for. Then let us bid it up. That will eliminate all the fishers. No hidden reserve, no BS. Then you will only have to deal with those who are serious about sellng and buying.

I would suggest that it become a PAID membership situation for the SELLERS ( maybe a $20.00 fee, maybe more since it's an exclusive membership). NO cheap Lucasi's, Adams or the like... If it's $300 up Vintage Cue,,, OK, but no cheap stuff. I don't mean dollar wise... a $10 video from Bert Kinister is ok... just none of that overseas made crap. Keep that stuff on eBay.

There will be lots of suggestions, lots of ways to do it & there will be mistakes made. Together we can grow in a direction, that's good for the makers & users of good Billiard Equipment. Maybe a Tournament could be staged to get things started. $100 entry fee for rated amaturers. All proceeds go to Mike. Winners get a nice Cue or Case paid for by Mike out of the proceeds. 100 x 128 = $12800 (he can afford it. Plus the $20.00 membership fee from everybody that wants to play, will help out too)

That would be a great kick off ....I mean Shoot off..... cb

If most of the people on this forum are aware of what's quality and what isn't then there shouldn't be a problem of them bidding on the "cheap stuff". But to not allow the $100 lucasi's is excluding a lot of people who are in the market for that very thing. Also, the more stuff that is sold the more $ Mike can make off % of sales and maybe he can make this site his full time job and put his full time into making this site even better. JMO

But either way it's decided (to be exclusive or not), I still think an auction is a good idea.
