I just got something in the mail today about renewing my "Billiards Digest" subscription which got me thinking. Which one is the best one out there? "Billiards Digest" is pretty cheap but there is no sense in renewing it fir there is a better one out there? The only other ones I know about are "Pool and Billiards Magazine" and "Inside Pool Magazine". How do these compare to "Billiards Digest"?

I get all three major mags

As a huge fan of pool I currently subscribe to all three major pool magazines. I think that all of them offer something a little different and one is not necessarily better than the other two. I was watching pool the other evening on TV and Inside Pool Magazine was offering a free intructional DVD with their subscription. I called to inquire about the offer as I wasn't sure when my subscription runs out. Turns out I was subscribed through 2009. I added another year and they plan to send my DVD within the next few weeks. I have seen some posts awhile back about some subscribers problems with Inside Pool Magazine. I have never had any problems receiving any of my issues of the magazine. If you only plan to buy a subscription to only one of them. My recommendation is to look at the current issue of all three and determine which one you like best for features, articles, instructionals and pictures and make your own judgement.

I currently subscribe to Billiards Digest and just last week subscribed to Inside Pool mag. Like Kevin, I think each has something to offer.

I enjoy IP, and B/D. The feature articles are about the same ,but the monthly mini article by people like Cornerman ( Fred),Grady, Nick Varner, Larry Schwartz, Bob Jewett,Tom Ross, Dr. Dave, Tom Simpson, Bob Henning,George Fels, and some of the others i fail to mention is to me the very heart of the magazines..One of my favorites was Keith McCready he had some great stories to share really miss his articles.

I get Billiards Digest and Inside Pool. I think both are pretty good and have had no problems with either.

The main reason I would not be willing to give up either is for the instructional articles. Inside Pool has Grady Mathews, Bob Henning, Tom Simpson, and others. Billiards Digest has Nick Varner, Larry Swartz, and others. I would not want to miss a single piece by any of them.

Subscribing to these magazines is cheap enough that I have never considered not getting both.

Agreed. I too miss the stories he told each month.

How often does it come out? Monthly?
Bi-monthly [six issue], cost per year $17. Just remember B/D was once Bi-Monthly. Its in the style of National Billiard News Magazine. Plus its carry Carom news.

I currently only get Billiards Digest, but that's due in part to the fact that I think I have a complete run, going back to vol. 1, #1. I subscribed to Pool and Billiard Magazine for a bit, years ago, but my subscription lapsed and I never renewed it. I like BD the best of anything out there, at this time.

I used to subscribe to all 3 magazines but dropped P&B. I like BD. Never any questions about their business ethics or when it will be delivered and it comes every month. Mark Wilson and George Fels are the nuts and I look forward to their colums every month; after about 3 weeks I start to have withdrawal symptoms and start wondering when I'll get the next fix.

I probably will NOT renew IP. I was one of the charter subscribers (got the free tape to prove it) but what I've heard about Calvert's business practices has me wondering if I want to support IP.

A year ago I subscribed to Inside Pool and got the free DVD. Paid $39 for 3 years. Found the DVD really worthwhile and ended up buying the whole series and books from Bob Henning.

Get the 3 year plan. It is one of the best deals going.

I forgot that ownership has changed hands.. I think?? Right?? John Barton is now in on the ownership? If so I'll keep my subscription. I don't know John but I had one business dealing with him and he treated me very well.

I like all three. But definitely check out www.professorqball.com - Professor Q. Ball's National Pool and 3-cushion News. Like Bob said, it's great. And inexpensive. Plus, you can get a free first issue if you just ask.

-yow!
