I had occassion to fly into San Diego this past week and decided to take a slight detour from my itinerary to check out Billiards and Darts Direct in La Mesa, CA. This store is owned and operated by Brandon Gramse of youtube pool tips fame. I have to say it felt a little funny to be standing in front of their 1/2 mile of cues which is the set on which the videos are filmed. It really felt like I had been there before having watched many of his videos. Brandon was very gracious and we chatted for quite some time about speed, deflection, cues and all manner of pool related topics. I didn't really need anything but felt a little guilty for taking up Brandon's time so I bought a box of chaulk! :D A great store ... a congenial proprietor and certainly worth a visit if you find yourself in the area.

That is funny you mention him, Just a few weeks ago I came across his tips on youtube. I have been playing forever and like a lot of players I play by feel. That is well and good but it is nice to have a trick or two on certain shots that work. He has a tip on making a straight in shot that really helped me. At my age I am sure I was told this at some time but had just forgotten, I don't really play that much anymore. Just this morning I practiced some shots on my table and I feel like I can make 50 in a row now from all kinds of distances. They not only go in but go in dead center.

Thanks Brandon for your videos. By the way, they are not major productions, half the time his hair is all messed up and they don't run more the a few minutes each, but there is good solid information there.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm always happy to hear that people make it a point to stop by my store when they visit San Diego. I started shooting those how-to videos about 3 years ago and it's good to know that the information is still being found useful.

As you mentioned, some of the earlier videos were less polished. I've since upped the game and increased the overall production of the newest videos. If you get a chance, you can see the new videos here: http://slctbld.es/youtube

Thanks again guys! Let me know if you have specific video requests in the future.

I was in there once with my buddy Jaden, nice place. plenty of supplies

Definitely one of the nicer shops in the San Diego area. I bought my first "non-Sports Authority" cue (a nice McDermott) from them back in 2004. Big selection of pool geek stuff, but I never understood the "1/2 mile of cues" calculation. Maybe it relates to the mirrored display case?

They are a big supporter of the local APA scene, and I think a few of the sales people/friends shot on an APA National Champion 9-ball team.

If you go and if they are still in the same location in La Mesa, be sure to visit the little Italian restaurant just up the street. A great lunch!

Thanks GeoEnvi. The "Half Mile of Cues" relates to the fact that if you lie each cue end to end, they'd stretch for over a half-mile. :) And, yes, we absolutely do support APA with a discount on cues and cases.

As for the Italian restaurant just up the street, it's called Sanfilippo's Pizza. They are delicious and they make a really good meatball sandwich.

Brandon's a good friend of mine.

I was actually making cues out of Billiards direct when I was still making cues. Which I plan on doing again here hopefully before too long.

Billiard's and Dart's Direct is a great place and Brandon is good peeps and plays well and knows the game.

Jaden

A personal thank you, Brandon. Your videos are short and to the point. You have helped my game immensely!!!

I would like to use my APA discount to buy 1/4 mile of 58" cues.
That would be 273-58" cues, plus a jump cue butt>>
