The recent Paul Newman thread re-opened a wound for me with regard to the Billiard Congress of America's weak marketing and advertising over the years.
Something that all big business (and sports) do is make alliances with high profile celebrities to champion the cause, publicly.
Sure, we have had Jerry Orbach (RIP) and Paul Sorvino - I'm certain they have had an impact; however there are much, much higher profile celebrities that could have been worked with/on over the years to join the billiards fight.
Obviously I am speaking about Paul Newman as one, but how about Michael Jordan? Michael is a pool player like he is a golfer. Golf has certainly been sure to take advantage and show him as much as possible with a golf club. Michael also directly supports Superbike Racing. He has his own team, Jordan Suzuki Superbike Racing.
Who does pool have - "A List" - doing anything with us?
Doing this type of high profile stuff is exactly where the BCA is supposed to attract new poolplayers by associations.
My point is constant missed opportunity due to disorganization. This is what plagues the billiards sports. Disorganization!
