Hi, Charlie! :) I'm just recovering from the Super Billiards Expo. :p

Congratulations on your fine finish in the Pro event AND the Action Table challenge match with The Painter. You done good, Kid! :D

I enjoyed reading the BD article. I always had a special place in my heart for North Carolina. I did not know, before I read the article, that that is where you're from originally. It stands to reason, though, since quite a few pool champions began their pool journey in the Carolinas, i.e., Earl, Wade, and Cliff J.

Enjoyed chatting with y'all last week! Wishing you and yours the VERY BEST! :)

Thanks,
I just got the article 2 days ago and I was very pleased with the results. Thanks goes out to Mike Geffner for doing such a great job.

Charlie, I just finished reading the article about you in Billiards Digest and enjoyed it greatly.

Congratulations on your continuing success as it is a journey and not a destination.

In the past, you've stopped by the Corner Pocket in Kenner, LA (New Orleans) and picked up some travel money.

Please make sure to visit again soon. The New Orleans pool community likes your style and (Glenn and I ) wants a chance to get SOME of our money back. :-)

If that doesn't work, just drop by and provide us with a pool lesson or two. The lessons will surely cost us less than trying to get our money back. ;-)

WARM REGARDS,
JoeyA

Great article, Charley! You do the game justice. Hope to see and meet you at the BCA Open in Las Vegas next month.

Just wanted to say ...

Enjoyed the article about you ... Sounds like your mental adjustment has been good for you, your life, and your Pool game. Best of luck in the future ..

I was thinking that a friend of mine had matched up with you before, Cliff
"Junior" Brown. He is from Wichita, but lived 7 years down in New Orleans, and ran everyone off the tables down there up and down Bourbon Street, and went on the road some ... Maybe it was Keith he played ...

I also have another friend or two you will probably run into, Gabe Owen and Shane McMinn from Tulsa.

I lived in Houston for about 4 years after the Navy, and went to college there.
Graduated from the University of Houston. I worked in a Pool room parttime, running the place and taught lessons back then. Early 70's. Played around there, used to play the Taylor brothers, and go see Jersey Red and Boston Shorty downtown. Met Squirrel before he went to Vegas and beat Wimpy for the 9 ball championship back then. Used to hustle Telephone road some, but that was dangerous back then, probably still is.

Although I am only 5'7", I have been told many times that I break as hard as anyone here in town, if not harder, but had problems with flying off the table quite frequently, so I have been working the last few years for a better break, taking some power off of it, and having a 1 ball shot after the break. It has made my break more consistent.

Do you have problems with your break since you put so much power into it, and do you always have a 1 ball shot?

I didn't know it either. The article said a small town outside of Hickory, what town was it? I lived out on Old Shelby Rd for a while and then later in Hildebrand. Have you ever played at Rack-N-Roll, over in Newton? There was a kid there named Ryan played real strong and would now be not much older than 24. You know him? I miss living there, especially when winter rolls around.
