The best definition to determine if something is a sport was given by Jim Rome years ago when discussing why he thought bowling was not a sport:
"Anything you get better at as you consume alcohol is NOT a sport."
To me pool is both. It doesn't require brute strength but it does require fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination. But in any event, even if you consider it a sport, it is still a game. So is baseball and football.
