the fact of the matter is that place is a hangout for NYU kids who dont go to the clubs and bars. Not a place to go play pool and get a good game or play in a league or tournament. its just not their clientele. so even if they take out another few pool tables, it has nothing to do with the amount of pool players going there changing. just has to do with the fact that the owners are catering more and more to the college kids who are too young to get into bars and dont have fake ids. they've always been the clientele at that joint and always will.

Pool rooms that are close to colleges and universities seem to always be very profitable, more so than the so-called "traditional" pool room that most of us diehard pool enthusiasts enjoy going to.
Most pool rooms in my areas are, in fact, nothing more than bars. They aren't the pool rooms that I grew up with, the neighborhood clubhouse where the "regulars" would meet and all tables were in use.
Snooker's pool room in Providence, Rhode Island, is near about a couple dozen colleges and universities. I really, really do like this pool room. Even when the smoking ban hit Providece, they just created an outdoor deck for the smokers with a chairs and even an outdoor bar, and you can peer in the window and still sweat the games.
I love Snooker's pool room by day, but by night, it transforms itself into a money-making, loud music, crowded bar scene. When the weekend pool tournaments run late into the evening, it is almost impossible to play pool seriously due to the loud music.
I understand the need for pool rooms to be profitable, and when they are located near the colleges and universities, it should be a win-win. I agree they should cater to those crowds too.
After all, a pool room owner isn't in the business to make pool players and pool enthusiasts like me happy. They're in the business to make money, and they must do everything possible to keep their business afloat.
In my area, almost all pool rooms are bars today. There are not traditional pool rooms to speak of, in my most humble opinon. :frown:
I dont think youll ever see a place with only ping pong tables like you see with pool halls. but for a while it will take some of the pool crowd away. Itll mostly take away bangers though real pool players are always pool players. and yeah pool will never be mainstream if the media keeps bringing up "pool hustlers" and why is it that anyone whos a good pool player is labeled a hustler, even if theyve never gambled a day in there life and only play tournaments?
