Billiards is too European

As soon as you bring "race" into pretty much any conversation, you come off as racist.
A person's color/ethnicity means nothing to me.
I see people by personality, attitude, values, etc...
Pool is a game for everyone, so let's build on that!

Pool like most sports is a game of skill. Player in a particular monument in time with most skill wins that competition.

Nothing else is relevant.

My other suggestion would have been to make pool targeted for gay and lesbians. However its unclear how the pool community is towards that sexual orientation.
It seems like you're looking for a solution when there is no problem. Instead of doing a thought exercise on this subject you would be better off working on your fundamentals or just introducing people you know IRL to the game.

As far as I've seen, pool is the most inclusive sport. Anyone can play. Anyone can enter tournaments. Anyone can set up money matches. Anyone can improve at the game. Nobody cares what your orientation or race is. If they do, it's not the sport causing it, it's the individual with the problem. They are racist, bigots, judgemental or whatever. People like that are best avoided. You can't fix others, best to just try to keep yourself a decent person and surround yourself with similar minded people. Life is too short to waste time on toxic people.

The real question is probably "why is pool unpopular?" It's because it's a cruel ass game and unless you take the time to find the fun and beauty in the game there's no reason to play it. It's more complicated and frustrating than anything I've ever participated in. It's fairly expensive with no real paybacks other than personal satisfaction and socialization. There is no "luck," there is no excuses. It's you, your stick, the balls, and the table. You can play perfectly and still lose, you might get broke an ran on and never even get a shot. Gotta let it go like water off a duck's back.

The game is hard. The game is demanding. Most people aren't wired to enjoy getting their teeth kicked in but us pool players are built different. It's fun and you get it or you don't.

Boogie man got it right. Pool is akin to golf. I know lots of people that think it is dull, boring and uninteresting.

I know a lot more that are fans of the game that play and watch it on TV. They appreciate just how proficient
the pros are and the beauty of well struck golf shots, especially challenging putts. But it is not a game that has
reall appeal to everyone and pool even has a much, much smaller following than golf. You have to be introduced
to the game in a positive, enjoyable experience so you’ll take the time to learn the game rather than just bang balls.

It is a difficult, challenging game when you start as a beginner and getting better is important for you to stick with it.

Those two posts above, sum up, alot that is amazing about pool. And the down side to it. It's very frustrating, tough, hard game, it really doesn't matter about the rest, Pool is for every one!!

Pool & Golf are similar in causing participants frustration.

Golfers, and Pool Player like gadgets, accessories, and a new Clubs, or Sticks that will turn gsme around.

Big difference is most PGA Pros make nice living if they play on the tour. Pro Poor player inline Golfer seldom win a weekend event. Walking away with$1,000,000.00 buck plus first prize.

I think billiards games (including pocket billiards games) need more:
white players,
black players,
brown players,
yellow players,
red players,
rich layers,
poor players,
working class players,
underclass players,
unionized players,
homeless players,
...
More of every race/creed/nationality will increase the perception of billiards (en-the-large) to everyone.
How come “rich players” didn’t get a p?

Asking for a friend😂😂

On a serious note. Cues in peoples hands is the goal. It’s not racial, gender, or geographic

The only color that matters is the 5 is orange!!!!

Pool won't attract new players if it has the "hot rich guy" attitude. You cant just put pool out there and expect to start attracting the "desirable people"

As a sport it is equally attractive like all other sports. The problem with pool is the lack of buy in at startup.

Participation in physical sports leads to the development of physical strength.

Participation in billiards has unclear benefits to people that have not become familiar with the sport.

Pool has great communities to be part of, its biggest selling point is being multigenerational and multicultural.
Basketball is exclusively white and black. Baseball is exclusively white, black, latin and some Japanese. Football is white and black. Golf is mostly white. Ice Hockey is mostly white. Soccer is closer to pool in cultural representation.

The main point being what can pool do for other communities. Why would pool be a good outlet for the youth or newly retired or working professional?

There are sports and then there are popular sports.
European sports like Pole Vaulting or Javelin throwing are commonly practiced but nowhere near popular with lower and middle income people. Billiards is too European because of the Russia ban, most of the newer pros are from Europe and the Euros have a system of player development.

If billiards is to be popular does it need more Black players?
Sports that are endorsed by black people like basketball or football do amazingly well from the equipment sales, fashion, merchandising and youth participation measures. Do people want Black participation in the pool community?

How would billiards become popular with Black people? Should Black support start with billiards in America or Africa?
Strange how this has morphed into a thread about "POOL" when if ya'll read the last sentence/paragraph
you'd see that he's asking about BILLIARDS. Not Pocket Billiards, just Billiards.

Yes Billiards has a strong following in Europe and has large followings in several non-Euporeapian Countries.
Largely, in SE Asia and South & Central America. The USA used to have a strong following of Billiards nowadays
not so much, sad to say.
I have only recently discovered the uniqueness and how the principals can not only apply but strengthen anyone's
game of pool. After all wasn't Efren a champion Billiard player before he became a Champion Pool Player? WHY,
haven't more pool players taken the time to learn the beauty of the Billiards games and expanded their skills to
include those of the table with no pockets? After all, it can only improve your game, what's bad about that?

I was intrigued by the rich layer thing and I thought I wanted one and then I saw it was that damn Eric who chimed in.

I’m holding ok these days, but not close to where I was at in 2008. I’ve been lucky and blessed. Not a day goes by I don’t remember where I came from. Was a long road.

There are no rich players only rich layers

Now we know😂

Have a great Sunday,
Fatboy😃
