Billiards with The Stars-Joe Rogan Host

I've entertained several billiards ideas for TV shows, one exactly like the idea Kid Dynomite suggested. The problem with that idea, is that most celebrities SUCK at pool. The numbers that can get out at all are pretty small.
I think there may be 6 celebrities all told that are capable of breaking and running a rack of 9 ball.

My favorite idea was one involving me traveling around to pool halls playing local shortstops and local pros in a sort of impromptu game show type scenario where I just show up and play the best guy/girl in the house. That's my favorite idea so far, but these days I'm pretty busy.

Come on now u mean to tell me Paris Hilton or the Kardashians ain't sharks!

I was thinking more along the lines of Joe playing one star each week. Stars from the entertainments, sports, and other well know people. There are enough out there for a show each week. It's just with some of them Joe would have to be on the lemon to not make them look too bad. They don't have to be able to run a table for it to work for the mainstream. Johnnyt

What about billiards with the Stars more on the theme as Dancing with the Stars, where there a pro coaches that actually participate with the Stars. They could play Scottish Doubles or team 8 Ball and have a double elimination tournament? That might draw some attention of the general public, especially with some of the well known women players, since your average Joe is well aware of the female pro players. Of course, there would be men pro players too!

This could have a chance. If high diving stars could survive a season, this certainly could.

Joe,
Love when you post as I'm a huge fan. Your idea has merit. Although not sure just playing them would last.

In my mind it would be a loose setting where while playing the opponent you pick a random shot based on the difficulty and offer challenges.

1. Easy shot - You make it, $20. You miss it, 10 pushups.
2. 50/50 shot - Make it, $50. Miss it, sing karaoke.
3. Difficult shot - Make it, $100. Miss it...you get the idea.

Or pick a random player, hand them $500 or $1,000 with the agreement they have to put at least 80% in action over say 3 games. You then pick a random shot and ask them how much they want to bet.

Just spitballin. Would love to see something like this though.

Why not do something like the celebrity poker show. 6 celebs, races to 3, 4, or 5. single elim tourny's. maybe do a scotch doubles kind of thing.

There's a hundred ways you can go with it. But I think some sort of format, that lends to a friendly atmosphere, and definitely on a bar box, playing 8 ball. Have to relate to the masses as much as possible! plus easier for stars to make balls.

best,

Justin Hanson

P.S. Love the new show Joe. Thanks for asking the questions A LOT of people want to know the answers to!

I believe a TV show with a pool theme would give pool a bigger shot in the arm now than a movie about pool. New movies only seem to stay at the theaters a month or so unless it's a blockbuster. Johnnyt

joe rogan:

i've been thinking of mailing you suggesting that very same idea, lol. travelling around not only US but phillipines, england, europe, playing local heroes and celebrities that can hold a stick.

if that ever happens be sure to include ken shamrock!

How @ broadening your reach/demographic...

Poker, pool and bowling. (Sorry Blaine ;))

Joe is the announcer/ref in pool, the dealer/announcer in Hold 'Em, and has to reset all the bowling pins ;).

Best idea I've seen. I mean, come on!! If hillbillys shooting aligators or Honey Boo Boo can be a hit, why not this??

It worked on TV back in the day and I think it would still work today. Johnnyt

For Gods sake, celebrities play charades on tv and people watch. Pool doesn't need another gimmick. Pool is what it is...a bunch of two bit ginders hacking out a living.

Joe Rogan, Earl Strickland and another celebrity (preferrably one with a big mouth and does not know one end of the stick from the other) on the road. They are travelling to the US Open and try and live off money they scrape together hustlin at pool, cards, arm wrestling or whatever.

i remember all the poker tv shows 5-10 years ago, man was it boring, but people watched it. and poker saw a rise in popularity not seen in half a century.

a pool tv-show with joe rogan would be so cool. even if there's too few celebrities that can play good pool there are lots of potential celebrity stakeholders. good tv
