Help me understand something...
In professional snooker, the vast majority of frames are conceded, even though technically, there's always a chance for player who is behind to come back with successful snookers. But, the absolute normal play is a concession when the frame is all but over, barring a miraculous brain fart by the player in the lead of that frame.
Seems perfectly acceptable for snooker. Isn't snooker a better analogy than sports that aren't cue sports?
In match play golf, conceding holes is absolutely normal. When the late, great Payne Steward conceded a long putt to Colin Montgomerie ('99 Ryder Cup), there were resounding cheers and kudos for great sportsmanship. Nobody felt ripped off as fans. Steward set aside any personal accomplishments as the US completed a phenomenal team win, and he didn't think Montgomerie needed to have any additional stress put on him (his Euro team just lost, and he was always getting heat from the gallery).
