billy thorpe v john schmidtt one pocket

from JS

Well I played billy Thorpe 5 ahead for 10,000 I lose, then I played him 7 ahead for 20,000 I lose, then he spots me 10/8 9/8 and 9-8 and I lose 12 ahead for 17000. His backer and him we're gentleman . Many people will say I dogged it yada yada but believe me billy banks so great and so much better then me that I couldn't win with 9/7. I flat out have no chance against him at one pocket because so much banking involved and I'm man enough to admit it. I want to thank mike medley owner of michaels billiards. He's a great guy and owner . I'm sorry to everybody that bet on me but I play one pocket way under him. I don't know what else to say

Billy's play has been on a whole other level for some time now. Can't speak for John's game. A quote from John this morning on Facebook.. "John Schmidt.. Billy played the greatest pool I've ever seen the first set. Could have gave me 9/7. Greatest banking I've ever seen ever"

I said here a few yrs back I'd love to see him on the MC team I actualy thought he was a Tad better than Sky when I first watched him play at the Xbo the last yr it was in VF

Some Pool Players do have class!

For about 2 1/2 hours yesterday I was sitting 5 feet from the table where John had his case etc.
Between shots he would sometimes lay his cue there and lean on the end of the table.

When Billy was ahead 5 and looking very strong to go up 6, John said softly, sort of
in my direction but not actually to me, " I need 10 - 7 from this guy."

A few minuets later, he did what I can't imagine ANY other player doing. He said much the same
as the above quote - though not details about the money, talking to the couple dozen
spectators so everyone could hear. The gist was 'he plays much better than me, I'm
man enough to admit it'.

John didn't dog it.
He didn't play bad.
Billy played super deluxe.

The reason I mentioned class - even the reason I am making this post at all, Many years ago
when John was a young hot shot who few had ever heard of, he beat a one time
World Champion Straight Pool player in a major 14.1 tournament.

The guy broke his cue over his knee.

Some Pool Players do have class...
