I'd personally love a plain Cog,but isn't it crazy to pay in the neighborhood of 4 grand for one, according to the current 107 yen=1.00 USD formula?

I think it is crazy indeed, though I don't begrudge Joe Gold or Tony for taking on such a deal since it is obviously lucrative for them.
If this were 30 years ago we'd be in trouble, but these days there are so many cuemakers making excellent playing cues, and quite a few that do extraordinarily beautiful work that I find no need to "have to own" a certain cue if it means killing myself financially.
If you like butterflies, no one does them better than Paul Fanelli. Simply the best in understated beauty you can find, and he didn't make any contract deal with Lucky (not yet at least, lol)
If you like traditional points, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who cuts a meaner point than Skip Weston, and his prices are beyond reasonable imho. Both Skip and Paul makes great playing cues in addition to being aesthetic top-dogs, and I'm lucky enough to have both of them in my neck of the woods.
Anyway, my point is, if you're looking for a cue to play with or hang on a wall, there are soooo many great choices without having to pay Lucky's prices. Obviously there is no dissuading someone bent of owning a certain cuemaker's cue, but $4000 for any plain jane is insane.
