Black Hills Custom Cases --Now Taking Orders

Myself and fellow AZer JJsooted have been playing around and making some cases. We decided that it was time to branch out and take some orders from the AZ community.

Pricing is going to vary quite a bit from cases to case, but we will try to give you some idea of what to expect. Since we are still learning with everything that we do, our cases are cheaper than the well known and established case makers that have inspired us.

Sorry for the poor pictures. My camera is MIA, so I had to use my phone. Future pictures will be done with a better camera.

The first case pictured here is a 2x4 that we built for a local. Pricing for this case is as follows:

2x4 case: 300
Tooling on pockets only, Name on back and initials on lid: 50.

Total was $350.

This is the interior of the above 2x4. This interior is very soft and the cues fit nice and snug. You can actually hold the case upside down fully loaded and the cues will not slide out.

This is a 3x6. All of the white is white deer. The diamond in the pocket is inlaid. This case is actually finished, but I didn't take any pictures of the finished product.

I was lucky enough to recieve the first case that these guys have sold. I feel you can't get a better deal for a custom case. The tooling, the leather and the attention to detail are top notch. The interior is one of the better ones that I have seen in a case. You can litterally turn the case up side down and shake it and the cues don't move and inch, while still being easy to remove. So if your in the market for a great custom case these guys make a great case for the money.

Well, we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. Let us know if you have any problems. Oh, and nice first post.

Thanks for looking.

Nice interior design - looks my message of protection is getting through to more case makers!

I guess this means I can take JJ off the list for the three cases he ordered. :-)

One of them was yours.

Good luck in the cue case business - lot's of competition coming online these days.

John

John,

I would personally like to thank you for all of the information that you supplied on AZbilliards over the last several months. Your interiors were the main influence for our interiors. There were many, many hours spent looking for the perfect materials for the interiors and it means a lot to have you compliment them.

My pleasure. Yours look REALLY good. I would caution you only to be mindful of the trend towards rubber and sticky leather wraps. We are dealing with this now and I am developing new interiors that should be able to handle most rubber and leather wraps that I have seen and still provide the protective cushion that I think should be there.

You don't want someone getting a cue stuck. I had one customer here who had an elephant skin wrap and it got stuck. He got it out and fixed the case and none of his other cues had any problem.

I guess it's getting to be time to start collecting cases again with all the new case makers on the scene :-)

John,

Thanks for the kind words. After taking this idea on, I personally have a new found respect for the case makers out there. Like my partner said, you really inspired the interior, and we can only hope to make an exterior some day that would be up to your standards. Its kind of funny that we were in the market for I think 3 cases, and then decided we could make em ourselves... lol.. Wow, I think I have went from 20 hours a week of playtime to zero.. and instead of working 40hrs, its now 65 or 70. John, You have been an innovator in case design, but more importantly have always been a gentleman as well. Your designs, your interior, are just so smooth and clean... They go unappreciated by some of us until we try it on our own. I hope everything is well in China. Thanks John !

Sincerely,

Jay Jensen

:-) So true. I have often said that if you love to play pool then don't get into the billiards business. Kelly Fisher is here to do a couple exhibitions. So two of my friends came over to the house to meet her. They just came from the pool room and one of them asked me when I played pool last. I said I can't remember and don't even know offhand which poolroom I left my cues at. :-) Actually I played for an hour two or three weeks ago.

You guys will get there if you stick to it. The guy I actually want to give a shout out to is Jack Justis. I used to think that his style of cases is fairly easy to do. You know kind of like thinking pool is easy because you see the pros never faced with a hard shot.

Well they are not "easy" at all to get everything straight and clean each time. Jack has it down to a science. Anyone doing this style of case has a lot of things to consider when doing it to be sure that it comes out looking very clean and classy.

Jay Flowers or Curtis Cases may have started this style but Jack perfected it and now we are all following in his footsteps as far as fit and finish goes.

Good luck guys, welcome to the world of case making. It's fun to consider that there are no limits to what you can do with a cue case. My order sheet is a blank piece of paper. I know what you are feeling right now and think back to the time I started in Koblenz, Germany and how proud I was of each case we finished. They were much cruder then but I loved them no less than what we do today.

Well Nasty, what started off as a joke is hopefully going to turn into a great case. I know that I am really excited to see if we can pull it off and still make it half way stand next to some of the cases in your collection. With out giving anything away, I'll just say that this gives new meaning to a custom case!

We will be adding some better pictures of some stuff that we are working on soon. Thanks for all of the comments so far.

Good luck with the new project. I think you need better... MUCH better pictures. Maybe the TAR boys can help in that regard?
