Black Marks On Balls

We have 4 Diamond Pro Ams. They all leave black marks on the balls. I contacted Diamond about this and they said to wax the leather pockets. I've done this 3 times with Carnuba wax, the black marks still appear. Anyone else having this problem and what is the solution? Other than this we are quite happy with the tables. Thx Larry T
 
Well I can say I have the same problem but I don't have a Diamond . It seems like the drop pockets on my table the black is wearing off . I to need some help in this depo .
 
This happens with leather pockets, you could line the pockets if it really bothers you. Now you know why antique tables have red leather for inside trim. Never use black if you can avoid it.

I thought they used red liners because the lighting was bad and red made a better target.

Glen knows the fix for this, it's not carnuba wax, it's a type of shoe wax. I'm sure he will see this thread and let you know which to buy.
 
did Diamond tell you to use carnuba wax? the red inside leather is NOT a target as when aiming you should look at the mouth of the pocket. This is a common mistake of players and they always wonder why they are missing on the inside. If you draw a line from a ball to the backside of the pocket you will see it will never go unless its a direct shot.

just checked the balls I got with my DP and sure enough they have black marks. Seems like Diamond would treat these pockets before they left for delivery since this is a problem.

Kiwi liquid black shoe polish, (not the heel and sole dye) comes in a goose neck shaped bottle, seals the dyed leather with kind of like a black plastic finish, which stops the dye from coming off on the balls;)

Thank you for the information Glen, this should make cleaning the balls much easier. We will try it on Monday. thx again Larry T

Since this is a problem and there is a solution, why doesn't Diamond do this to the pockets before the tables are delivered? or is this a regular type maintenance issue?

Diamond has the pockets manufactured by someone else, so this addition to the pockets is up to the end buyer.

It's not the pockets. It's black phen break tip. We have diamonds bruns. Amfs and an olhoussen. All have the same problem. We clean the balls 2x everyday.

It's deff the tip

i dont doubt that on occasion the pocket may mark the ball.

however as a cuemaker ive done a countless number of different break tips

i also play pretty often. with my current break tip. (phen) the 1 ball at the end of the day looks like someone drew spots on it with a black marker. at one time i changed to a superpro for about a year and the problem stoped. i recently changed back and the problem is back

i am 1000% certin without any doubt that its the tip and not the pocket

to prove my point i will waste an entire day this week and play some billiards with my break cue. no pockets = no marks right?

tell the truth, you just want to play billiards.

What kind of tip are you using? I am sure a tip can also leave marks but pockets do leave marks on balls as Glen has indicated.

I definatly believe you that a tip can leave marks on the cue ball. But why would a break tip leave marks on the other balls? Does it transfer from the cue ball to the object ball after impact?

black canvas phenolic. also them black carbon fiber break tips are worse

yes. it is the strangest thing. i can not clean my balls for a week and there will be little to no marks on any ball EXCEPT the 1 ball. it is the oddest thing. i have to clean that ball everyday. i dont want to clean just 1 ball and wear it dont so i just do them all.

so if it was the pocket it would be every ball not just the 1 ball. ill snap a pic tomorrow if i can

so yes it does transfer but the cueball is clean. crazyness
