Black marks

I've had a GC5 for a while and occasionally black marks about the size of a pencil eraser appear on the balls. Is it from the rubber in the pockets? Anyone else have this problem or know the cause and/or remedy? Thanks in advance for any info.

Ball return or buckets? What kind of balls. What kind of tip on the cues.

Balls are Aramith Super Pro, pockets are bucket, Talisman hard tips. 860 tournament blue cloth, master blue chalk.

I don't think so...I have a GC, ball return, and get the marks on the OBs, which never touch th tip of cue.

gotta be the pockets.

I've got a GCI with ball return gully...I get the same marks on the object balls...not on the cueball. It's not the "tip" of the cue...the marks drive me crazy because I can't figure out where they're coming from either...

I've tried cleaning the pockets and gully with a damp cloth...I even used a rag soaked in "Chalk-off" to clean the pockets and gully to see if that would do it...nope!

I saw the post from MidLifeCrisis, but my table doesn't have leather pockets...so that wouldn't help me...I would like to hear a solution to this as well...

Wish I could help, but I've had a GC5 for over two years and have never seen this. Maybe Brunswick is using a different source for the pockets.

I was thinking the pockets on either the first touch on the back of the pocket or on the rebound hit to the front when there could be pocket induced spin (PIS). Maybe it only occurs on shots of a little more energy. I have tried to re-create the marks intentionally and can not, so I'm at a loss.

It's the pockets. They are scuffs from when a ball moving at a good pace enters the pockets, usually hit to one side of the pocket so the side of the ball contacts the top lip of the pocket, thus leaving a black scuff mark. Kinda like what black sole shoes do to floors.

Maybe I misread. I had a 9 ft diamond for years. Black leather pockets. Never got a mark til I started using a specific break tip. Since I switched. No marks at all.
