Black walnut as a pool cue wood

I think it is great. A little on the light side if I remember. I have used it as a handle and points in a wrapless cue and as point stock and butt sleave in another. I can't recall using it as a forearm but my guess is it would work great.

I have a 8 point with walnut points and a walnut burel butt sleave . Going to be pretty when finished .

walnut

i have some claro walnut and black walnut for butt sleeve
im not sure if i have enough for a forarm
the black walnut has allot of figure

Walnut is a tad lighter than sugar maple. It is known to be one of the most dimensionally stable woods. As long as it is dry, you should be fine. I have wood enough for over a dozen cues that I'm in the process of turning down to size. Ray Schuler used it for break cues in particular due to its weight, or lack thereof.

Eastern black walnut is a lil harder & stronger than claro, generally speaking. It's just rarely as figured & pretty.

the whole piece is not that way. and i thought it was kinda pretty wood .
sorry.

If you see apiece of wood that has that in it - run! Its called honeycombing and results when cell walls collapse as the wood dries to fast. Count on it being internal and all throughtout the board.
