Boars cost alot because Tony has alot of overhead in his shop, he dosent work from home. He has a huge nut on his machinery. and he builds 7-10 cues a year, so it get expensive fast, real fast. He has $1500 in rent in each cue, twice that in employees. He aint getting rich, he is fair with his pricing-its just expensive to do it the way he does it. I cant fault a man for that.
He monitors his humidity constantly, he has humidifiers and de-humidefires to keep things stable. He buys and holds wood forever to make sure it stays straight, his tollarances are among the closest to perfection thats possible with imperfect materials-thus he has alot of waste. He just spent $12,000 for some German leather treatment stuff so his new wraps will be better-its a 10 part sysyem of fluids. he is insane, his passion is engeneering the perfect cue, the art work is secondary. His Hero is Gus Szam-Tony told me that 2 days ago. Tony's cues are like no other, like gus. Thats why they fetch big $$$ and there arnt to many.
I thought it was all hype until I educated myself, Barry and Art Cantando are the only other 2 cue makers who IMO build cues that play like a boar. Sugartree will in time, he is getting close and is young.
