Well, not exactly, but there is enough raw Szamboti on display to sooth the savage beast.

Also - check out the Hoppe with a "rare tortoise shell joint". What the heck? I hope the poor thing died of natural causes. I have one and I thought it was buffalo horn!

Speaking of shells, you could play the "shell game" with #27 and #31. "You want the Szamboti, Sir? Why, Certainly!" and swish... and the Mottey magically ends up in his hands!!!

Thanks again GUYCRUNCH!

Well being this is an old mailing of Marks, BTW the polite thing to do when showing these is to credit the source of the photo (not that I want to rehash that arguement). Some of those Szambotis Lucky owns and Mark was indeed the seller.

Marks last listing of the Petersen was 22k JFTR.

joe, i'm sorry, that's my fault. i sent chris some samples of the old mailings i had from joel, mark, and john and i did not send him ones with the cover page. john's had his name on the price list, but joel's and mark's did not. i have since told him how to identify each set and sent him some sets with the cover pages intact.

Guy,
I'm just saying its the polite thing to do, I am not offended at all. I think its great you kept them. In fact my first ever cue deal was with John Wright. So its all good nostagia IMHO.

thanx joe. my first ever custom cue deal was with mark and he really took great care of me, i was very happy. he took a newbie (me) and helped him out. and my second deal was with joel hercek and again i was amazed at how well and fairly i was treated. he sent me a number of cues to look at without me sending him a dime until i found the one i liked and bought. i thought chris would like to see what some of the cues (especially the palmers) were selling for in the mid-90's. i didn't realize that this would come up here, altho i'm glad everyone seems to like it.

How can one not like it? But you have to remember it was 12-14 years ago. I am glad you feel you were treated well in your deal with Mark. I had a friend here in NJ who was part owner of a room and JW used to do the same thing with him, sent him cues to pick out with no money. We have a few customers we extend the same courtesy to. I remember this guy Frank was in love with Joss Wests and he would get one a week to sample. He also bought a a few Spains from JW which we ended up buying from hin in '96 or so.

About the rarity of Bushka's, how many are in your mailings? I didn't see any.

Joe

i don't think there as many, maybe even none. i just sent everything i had to chris yesterday so he could see and scan it all for his site. he should get them on monday. i'll ask him to look. as for mark, all my dealings with him were very good. i can remember going to pool table magic in endicott and going thru some of his collection, that was a real privilege. i even remember mark coming up to the hall where i played in nashua nh and putting on a trick shot exhibition! see if he remembers how long ago that was.

You mean Enfield, man that was a blast.. he is moving again to right outside the Airport in Windsor CT. Anyone who meets Mark in the room and gets his attention and goes through the collection, leaves in awe. E-mails and the phone are so impersonal and sometimes translation of feelings don't go over as you mean them.

I'm on a trip right now - when I get access to my software I'll credit it on the site. I think i'm going to leave thes pages up as a section of my site so potential collectors can see for themselves that, even though 10 years ago these prices looked expensive, many were real bargains by today's standard.

Chris

Most if not all the pictured cues are drop-dead gorgeous. I was just starting to get into pool back then. Ah, the missed opportunities...

Speaking of Enfield, CT and Mark's old room, the first time he and I met in person, I was up in the NE and dropped by to buy a Spain cue. Spent the whole afternoon looking at stuff and I ended up spending about 6k. Back then it got a super nice Barry Szamboti with ~30 ivory inlays, one-of-a-kind Spain with ~50 inlays, Mottey, Paradise. My, how times have changed.

Looking forward to seeing his new place when it's finished.

Everybody loves those Gus 8 pters, the only way I can get one reasonably and of really good quality may be to get Paul to make another one like #31.

FTB

He made the attached, 1 of 1, I have a couple of his cues, like working with him, he is one of the greats.

rich, you are not allowed to talk about mottey's on a szam thread!
just kidding of course! :p
that is a pretty cue!
do you play with that szam of yours?

Jeff, I play with a Mottey but it the one in the attached photo with the stainless joint, Paul has since converted it to ivory for me, I just don't have a current photo.

What are the colors of the veneers in this one?
Thanks...

Good Lord. From the photos a non-expert such as myself can't tell the difference between that and a real Gus. Beautiful work!
