Blue Diamond Test Run

So I was ordering some stuff from AZ B Marketplace and always like to try out something new or even gagets sometimes. So I picked up some Blue Diamond Chalk, actually with high anticipation after hearing all of the chalking miracles here in regards to Blue Diamond.

Could I have been more dissappointed! Ok, that's harsh, maybe the word isn't dissappointed. This stuff was the EXACT same as Masters (remember, my experience, dont bash). I could not tell a difference in chalk going on or the chalk staying on the tip ect. Even seemed to be the same consistency, not powdery but doesn't cake.

Now being equivalent to Masters is no shame, but for the price and hype I thought I was gauranteed to never miss with this stuff:grin: And if you asked my practice partners, I miscued more than normal that night, like twice. Now I am not blaming the chalk on the miscues, it was just ironic. I am not completely giving up on BD and will use the two cubes I have but I will never buy it again, I can get an equal product for cheaper with Masters.

Now again, this is just my take and opinion. I do NOT think BD is a bad product, I just now, after using it, think it is very overpriced and VERY similar to Masters in performance.

Since you miscue more than normal with the Blue Diamond chalk, you would be crazy to keep using it so I will trade you even, two cubes of Master Chalk for two cubes of Blue Diamond Chalk.

LOL, I did say I wasn't blaming it on the chalk...yet. And also that I would give the two pieces a chance. Again, it's not bad stuff, its just doesn't offer me any extra advantages...except a slightly smaller wallett.

Plus, if were going to do an even trade you owe me more than a couple cubes of Masters:wink:

I too have tried this BD and IMO it gave a little better coverage than Masters.

However I will not be ordering any more as I see no significant difference in playing between the two, even with the very slightly better coverage of BD. I didn't miscue any more or less with either and therefore will be using Masters for the lesser price.

Thanks for the honest review. I was a little surprised based on all the previous comments about Blue Diamond but people tend to perpetuate some hype. Personally, I'm just too cheap to spend that much on chalk. Never had a problem with Master's.

Thanks for your update and opinion. I have used alot of Blue Diamond chalk as have many guys I shoot with.

Everyone I have talked to has noticed a difference between the two and would choose the BD over Masters everytime.

I love the BD chalk, but have a few cases of really old pre flag Masters that I love and will use up.

Those cases should last me a lifetime, so I don't forsee ever buying chalk again!!!

Stick with what works for you :)

Russ.....

Russ,
I've heard that if chalk is kept under normal conditions for more than a few years, you can expect major moisture problems in the chalk, causing you to miscue with increasing regularity. I would consider getting rid of that OLD, pre-flag chalk. It's probably not worth having.

The same thing goes for that Blue Diamond chalk. If you bought a case of that, you should be trying to get someone to take if off of your hands.

(So just in case you want to trade a case or two of that old pre-flag, high-moisture content Master chalk for some NEW, FRESH, MASTER CHALK, just give me a buzz) (I guess I would trade off a case or two of my NEW, FRESH Master Chalk just to help a guy out).

Chalk, chalk,chalk........BD better than Master better than Silver Cup......expensive better than less expensive.....blue better than green and everything better than red.

Keep your tip fuzzy and chalked up before/after every shot and none of it matters (ok except for the red chalk).

Sometimes when I read these posts it is like a big circle. One week its this tip is the greatest holds chalk won't mushroom. Or this is the best chalk goes on smooth an really stays on. Then most like myself give testimony of how super the product is. Not that we have anything to gain. Just trying to help people along in this crazy game. I like an use BD, my miscues are related to my laziness to preform a good stroke. But in a way if sort of fun to see what products will be put through the ringer next.

For what its worth here is my take on chalk.

I have masters, blue diamond, NIR and silver cup.

Masters (blue, tan)- great chalk- great price = hard to beat

Blue Diamond- great chalk, expensive but I rate it somewhat higher than Masters in performance.

NIR- excellent chalk, very messy (it leaves allot of chalk dust on the table) cost more than masters but a little less than blue diamond. Best preforming chalk I have used.

Silver Cup (blue, Tan)- comparable in cost to masters but is inferior to masters in quality (IMHO) still decent chalk for a cheap price.

Summary; at home it's masters all the way. They make such a good chalk at a very reasonable price you just cant beat em. At tournaments and league I use my NIR chalk. Superior performance and I dont get that chalk mess on my home table!

BTW, I was curious, do you think maybe you miscued more because you were trying to apply more english to the ball, testing the chalks effectiveness so-to-speak? Or do you think you were playing the same as always and just got worse performance from BD.

The shot had everything to do with at least one of the miscues. Tough shot using a lot of English, that was my fault. In my original post, I was half serious and just laughed it off as irony when I miscued more than normal that night.

I am still soo surprised by the testimonies given on BD's superior performance. I would chalk with BD, wipe it off with a napkin, chalk with Masters. Repeat, hit balls with each. I just couldn't see the slightest difference, in anything.

Sounds like you have found a chalk that works well for you and at a decent price. I'm not surprised that its master chalk, it's just a good solid product.

I was given samples (2 Blocks) of it twice, IMHO nothing special, but so go ga ga over it. Too each his own.

I am not surprised.

If Masters and Blue Diamond were made in different countries or different parts of this country, there most certainly should be a difference. But when they're made in the same relatively small building, by the same workers, by a company who regularly sells the same exact chalk under many different names already, should anyone really expect that much of a difference? :D

Stick your finger in the cube, rub the chalk between your index finger and thumb, and you'll see their consistancy is quite different.

I think if you didnt notice a difference in how the two go on you either got a bad batch of BD or a good batch of masters! The difference to me is night and day!

It's possible. Its also been so hot and humid here maybe it got ruined in shipping??? Doubt it, but I guess its possible. I don't see anyone use BD around here, but I might have to see if I can borrow a cube from the next peson I see using it to make sure I didn't get a bum batch.

Did the index finger deal, no difference.
