I received this email from Gary Eake:

To all:

I received the following info from Bob's wife Cynthia via a mutual friend:

"Bob is doing great. I cannot believe the progress he is making daily. A week ago he was barely responsive, and now he's sitting up having dinner, feeding himself, getting his speech in order…

He suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on October 19, and was airlifted to Iowa City to the University of Iowa Hospital. He was not responsive for several days (he was conscious though) and suddenly he started coming out of it. He began to recognize me, say his own name and birthdate, etc. Now it's like a miracle, although there's still lots of therapy in store for him. He'll probably be in Finley Hospital rehab here in Dubuque for at least another week. He's been there a week already.

If you want to send him a card, best to send it to our house and I'll bring it. They tend to get lost at the hospital, or he's eating them."

NOTE: Given all Bob has done to advance the quality of all cue sports sending a card is the lease we can do!

Bob Byrne's Health Update

I received this email from Gary Eake:

To all:

I received the following info from Bob's wife Cynthia today:

Hi Gary:

Bob is improving like crazy!

I expect him to come home in about a week, but he'll need therapy for a long time.

Thanks for spreading the word. I don't know a lot of the people in the billiard world who want to know.

Cindy

To all:

I received the following info from Bob's wife Cynthia today:

Hi Gary:

Thanks for keeping the billiard community informed. Bob has gotten many cards, some from people he's never even met. One fellow planted a tree in Bob's honor!

Bob will, I believe, be coming home Thursday. It will take some time for us to get settled in to the new routine of therapy and so on. He will continue to have therapy and help for some time, and I can't leave him alone at all these first weeks. We'll see how good of a nurse I really am now!

He's progressed an amazing amount. Just can't get over how quickly he's learning to do things again. He has some problems with his right side, seeing and comprehending, but he's really doing well.

Cindy Byrne

NOTE: Given all Bob has done to advance the quality of all cue sports sending a card is the least we can do! As indicated above, it is appreciated.
