Just sold my new cocobolo Frey SP. Pretty cocobolo, it played very nice. Have too many cues. You could feel that all of each point was raised a bit (?) :(

i asked this once b4 nd never got a reply, has anyone hit with a frey and a tim scruggs sneaky? I heard frey built most of tims sneakys when he worked with him, just wondered if they hit pretty much the same?

Scotty, Owned both at the same time briefly -- I think they play very similar. Tim on his website refers SP interest to Bob Frey, I understand Bob was the primary maker of the Tim Scruggs SP's.

Just couldn't help favoring my bacote Scruggs SP (it's a Killer!)---- it a personal preference thing. See my previous post/comment re the points. Good luck in finding a great SP.

thx jigger, ive been wanting a scruggs sneaky, but theyre usually old and so high, i was thinking if frey made most of them, why not get a frey, new, made like you like it, and it would prob cost less...........i just wanted to know if they had that famous scruggs hit. appreciate the info

Though I own a Scruggs SP, I've played with both, and think they are the same also. A number of folks around here have Freys and swear by them.

I recently bought a "bob frey" SP from "cuesnthings.com", and play with it more than my custom cue. the SP plays well, as I've never had the chance to play with a TS sneaky, but if Bob made them anyways, I guess it best to buy a new one for less $$$. just my opinion.

My memory is foggy but I remember you selling a Scruggs sneaky here ( Ebay ).
You said you had two of them iirc.

Have heard nothing but good things about Scott Sherbines SP's. Scott owns/manages Profecient Billiards. I think the cost would be similar, maybe $300 to $400 with a linen wrap, built to your specs. See:www.proficientbilliards.com/

My Frey came from CuesNThings for $350 described in an earlier post. They seemed to have a good selection 9 months ago. I'm usually happy with a 19 oz and 13 mm tip, a little forward balanced - really nothing unusual. Had an inexpensive Joss SP that hit real solid and had a stiffer shaft.

Ebay T Scruggs non-fancy w/wrap >>>>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7230611838&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

Lots of good choices around, too bad it's tuff to find a dealer that allows you to try/play several a while to decide which suits you best.

I have been shooting with a Frey SP for a few weeks now, and am pretty satisfied with it. I like the way it hits, but I don't have a useful reference to compare it to.

The wood selection is excellent. The cocobolo butt is well figured.

I can feel the points where the maple is furthest back, but only at these particular spots, not the entire point. Very, very minor thing.

I would purchase it again.

Frey SP

I just had one shipped to me. I'll give you a review after I play with it a few times.

Not trying to be a smart aleck but what's the point of
a sneaky pete with a wrap?
My favorite sp's
1. Keith Josey- not very sneaky
1. Tim Scruggs
3.Dale Perry Speedster- not very sneaky
4. Leonard Bludworth
All four are kick ass cues.

i had a frey purpleheart sneaky, it was "solid and predictable". kinda like a bar cue, but nice. medium deflection, long taper 13mm 20oz. great for the $$, i'd say, but not for me. the current owner has had many offers to buy, but won't sell it.

i had a TS sneaky, it had a nice hit but it was too light (17oz) for me. so i'm no help there.

Only point I can think of a warp on a SP is that you want, say a TS cue, and the SP is inexpensive way to get one, but you want a cue with a wrap 'cause you like the feel of the wrap in your hand - ?

memory not that great

my memory is foggy also since my accident, but I do remember having one anyways. it was one of the ones that looks just like a house cue with the TS between the points, and no buttcap. I'm not sure if timmy really made these, but doubt it. looked like it was a CHEAP version to me so I don't consider it a real TS SP. good memory though!! foggy?

They all hit the same when it is a TS in my opinion...at least really really close to the same as long as the shaft dia is the same and the same type of tip. I've had maybe 10 TS sneaky's from those Cheap (laughing...they sell for about 400 anymore and hit great) to fancier models.

And you most certainly had one, told you at the time you got it and said how great it was I'd buy it when you wanted to sell it the week after. You didn't post it up here for sale though.

TS SP/Hustler Cues

I have 5 of these cues. They all hit somewhat different. In my opinion, the biggest differences would be the type of wood, shaft dia and ferrule tip combo and of course the weight.

I just traded a newer TS Cocobola Hustler to a fellow AZer to get my old TS playing cue back....I just did not care for the way this Cocobola cue played at all; a very beautiful cue but, I couldn't get used to the lighter weight of this cue and the ivory ferrule!?

My personal choice is my older (Timmy supposedly made it) Bacote cue with a 13mm shaft, linen based ferrule and Talisman tip. I have two of these particular cues almost identical but, not exactly the same. My preference is using the one with a cracked buttcap and a Talisman Hard Pro tip ;)

I really believe it is a personal choice based upon what you feel comfortable with which in reality is what you get used to playing with over time that feels like an extension of your arm.

My opinion is that a TS or Bob Frey SP cue is a great choice for a playing cue! They hit great!! Plus, all things considered not a very expensive choice and one that will always be worth more than what you paid for it :D

Never had a cocobola one...I've never had one that hit bad though, just traded one last night that I wish I hadn't *lol*. Always have remorse when I let a ts sneaky go though.
