I was surprised and saddened to learn today that Bob Hayward of Manchester, CT died about 18 months ago at age 85.

Bob was pretty well known around Connecticut as a player, a league director, and an instructor. Straight pool was his great love (along with chess), but he was also long active in 8-Ball leagues.

One strange occurrence in Bob's life is that he was Mike Eufemia's opponent in a straight pool tournament match in New London, CT when Mike dropped dead at the table.

While Bob's death was quite a while ago, I post this in case others on AzB who knew him were as uninformed as I was.
 
Always sad to learn of the death of anyone who has served the game well.

Never heard that story about Eufemia's death, though he was a good friend of my father. I only met Mike a few times and didn't really get to know him until his health was already failing him.

A friend was there that day, he says Mike Eufemia went to the ground hard with a sickening thud, Mike's wife and the room owners wife began shrieking, a degenerate stood over him making rude comments, and before the EMT's removed Mike, Bob Hayward already had another game made for that table.

Can anyone provide some details on Mike Eufemia's straight pool runs. I should know more about him but I don't. Was told he should have had the high run record in straight pool with over six hundred but for whatever reasons, Mosconi was credited with owning the high run record.

Maybe a separate thread would be better.
