Boca Billiards Rooms

Hello AZ Players,

I am coming to the Boca Raton Resort on Dec 10th and will be there for a week working on a big corporate meeting. I was wondering if anyone on this forum could recommend the closest real pool/billiards room (not just a bar with a couple tables) that has qualilty equipment and long hours...any suggestions? So far I see a place called Gatsby's is nearby, website looks like they have a few tables but they only open at 4pm. I may have some daytime hours off and would love to find a place to shoot nearby.

The Boca Raton Resort is right on the intercoastal waterway in Boca Raton.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Rooms near Boca

You might consider Premiere in Coral Springs; 15 9-foot Gandy's. Open at noon I believe.

Also, Corner Pocket on Oakland Park Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale; Gold Crown's and heated billiard tables.

A bit of a drive takes you to Hollywood Billiards.

Bring warm weather with you. Into the 30s tonight; very cold for us!

Suggest, too, that you take a look on the APA website for the Palm Beach County league operator. He knows all the rooms. www.poolplayers.com

APA-
League Name:
American Pool League of Palm Beach

There is another room in west palm-The Golden Q-It's in the SYMS shopping center corner of Forest hill and Military. During the day it's $6 or 7 all day. Its 100% serious players during the day and at night except league nights. Not sure which nights the League is there. Its about 1 1/2 miles from Grover's so you could hit both of them very easily-see what you like.

Currently there is more gambling at GQ than Grover's

Is Boca Billiards no longer opened? Been a while since I was there.
You got Georges billiards a little north in Boynton beach.

Thanks for all the responses. Looking on google maps I can't seem to find public transport directions to any one of these. Doesn't south FL have a bus system? Most of these are 15-25 miles away which could be a $$$$ cab ride.

Are any of y'all local to this area?

Boca Billiards on Glades Rd has been gone for many years

Premier Billiards is a good place to play. They're open early.

I haven't played at Gatsby's Boca location but their other 2 locations have nice tables with new cloth (within the last 12 months).

Golden Q, Grovers & Hollywood are true pool halls but if you're looking to just get some table time, Premier & Gatsby's would be your ideal choice if traveling by bus or taxi. Although, I don't think Premier or Gatsby's are accessible via bus. I've posted a link to the bus routes below.

Hollywood Billiards does get some Seminole Tour players at times. Last Sunday, there were about 8 tour players in their weekly Tournament.

Premier Billiards & Sports Clb

Hope this helps some.

Another option, although i don't know if it is still there.
There was a bar called Last Resort.
The owners were really into pool. Tables were well kept.
They had 2 or 3 barboxes and 1 or 2 big tables. It's been a while.
It was right between Delray and Boca.
There is also Boca bar & grill

Thanks to all. So far I've been to George's in Boynton Beach and I just left the Last Resort. The Last Resort shoulda been my First Stop...new Simonis, great table lighting, clean rails and clean balls, exactly the opposite of George's. I wish I hadn't burned my neck and back out playing over 7 hrs straight last night so I could've enjoyed TLR more. My body is done after two hours.

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Too bad about Georges. It was well kept when Ray had it as Action Billiards.
Is Georges the room for sale that someone posted in the for sale section?
Glad to hear that the Last Resort is still nice.:)

Pretty sure Gatsbys folded awhile ago in Boca. It was a really nice place. Where is the last resort. I never even heard of it. there are quite a few rooms in coral Springs. 2 in palm beach as been mentioned and Warrens place in Ft. Lauderdale.on Oakland park blvd.

Where is the last resort and do they have 9' tables?

Last Resort is on Federal (Hwy 1) on the northbound side just before Lindell . No signs outside besides red letters "Last Resort". Not so much as a beer sign in the window. The lady who gave me the balls, which were polished/new Pro Cups, said they don't advertise and that they are only word of mouth. Thankfully I read about it here!

The bar is rather smoky and reminded me of a place in PA my dad used to take me to when I was a kid. The tables played great, if a little tighter than a standard 9' Brunswick. Maybe they were double shimmed, definitely not triple as you could get two balls just barely into the corner pockets. They have four 9' tables and four Valley bar boxes that take quarters. 9' tables are $6 hour regardless of how many play. The cloth was brand new 860 in green.

All in all, if I play again later this week I am going straight here as the tables were great and it's only 6 miles away.

I find it very interesting that folks are sending you all over south Florida for Pool Halls. In terms of distance from you:

Gatsby's is in Boca - 18th street. Was very nice the last time I was in there (maybe a year). Typically "up scale" = Boca-style!

Bestest/Next Closest - the last resort, just north of the Boca Delray line on Federal. And Ya, the owners are players, so the tables are nice/well kept.

Georges - Congress just south of Boynton Beach Blvd. About the only place around to play 3 cushion. Ask for the Brunswick Centennials he keeps behind the bar!

If you want the "Real Pool Hall Experience", and are prepared to drive a bit: Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood, Florida. Hollywood is south of Fort Lauderdale. They're open 24 hours a day. And, that's where the "Players" go when there's a big tournament at the Hard Rock (also south of Fort Lauderdale).

Enjoy your visit. Stay warm.

Not sure how long you'll be in town, but .... there's an 8-ball tournament at Kelly's Billiards in Lantana on Tuesday nights. Tables open at 7. Tournament starts at 7:30. Kelly's is about 20 minutes north of you (if you're staying at THE hotel).

Old Days

Back in my days there I would have sent you to University Bowl on Dixie where I went crazy over bowling, but rarely held a pool cue. Tom's soul food wasn't too far away either. I'll bet they cleaned that area up quite a bit.

I wish someone would have explained the physics of the game of billiards to me back then !

Thanks for letting me hijack your thread a little.
