bonus ball is the real deal

So duckie...Have you played it? Is it fun?

Nope, and nor do I want to. I have no desire for the game but when the game is presented the way it is, I have problems.

To try to imply that this is "the game of games" the "real deal" I call bullshit. To imply that this game is harder than say 14.1, I call bullshit.

The Edsel was a good idea too as was 8 tracks and other things.

I don't follow the crowd like most here on AZB and I speak my mind when others in agreement with me do not.

If me speaking my mind kills this game then guess what, there wasn't much there to begin with.

Like I said, its just another game, and not more special than any other of the pocket games. If that brothers anyone, then you got a problem and not me.

Why do we care about what the amateur cares if the professional players are playing this game? I guess our first question always asked was if this is such a great game...why are the pro's not playing it? We had so many players in Winnipeg that laughed at us, refused to try and play Bonus Ball because it seemed easier to diss the game than stand up for the merits of the game. Still today we have people attacking the game, without merit, and we decided to answer the question of why the pro's aren't playing the game.

Now that it is not a question any more that the professionals do see merit in the game, we find it so much easier to have them tell you than myself tell you it is a great game. I am an amateur player and I did like watching top players playing any game. They did interest me. So I assumed that most players would enjoy following a professional league. I could be totally wrong about that but I have been willing to pursue this thought! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I am a very positive and focused promoter. I have promoted car racing in the past and I always put entertaining my fans first and foremost. That is priority number one! The racers did not always agree with me, especially old school racers that did not want change. Some stuck their noses up in the air at me but all came back to entertain my fans. Fans pay the way and without fans, you have nothing.

As far as expansion to other countries, of course we would like to see others pick-up and follow our footsteps. In other words, we don't have any plans to do more than make this a successful professional league but will entertain any offers to help expand this game. I hope this answers your questions.

I liked your response to my question regarding amateurs and pros playing the same game. I do think that's been a major obstacle in the way of pro pool's success. I don't think they will ever get the pros to play 8-ball so maybe your way will work. Only time will tell.

I'm ready to try this out. When are we going to get to see the new rules you guys have come up with?

I have a feeling some will be looking like this guy, they have probably looked like this before but forgot the taste. :p

Your post was just too good not to parse. Hey duckie, what's the harm in trying it and then giving your analysis. Isn't that the way product opinions for surveys are done?

Didn't they come in droves to try for IPT money playing 8-ball?

Oh yeah....forgot about that....duh

For some reason, I don't really consider anything that the IPT did. I knew the man behind it was a scammer so I new it wouldn't last. It's tough to take any lessons away from that. I guess it does point out that the "pros" will play whatever game they can if it means they can make money doing it.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Since I teamed up with Larry, every time we get together with the professionals, we have to adjust the game due to the amazing skills they display in looking for loop holes in the game. This is definitely been a good thing. What is a non-issue with the amateur player is not a non-issue with the professional player. Out of this, we always get the game playing better.

Our recent production at our new Las Vegas Studio was probably the best in terms of discovering a way to make this game better for professional players. Every time we do adjust to the skills of the professional player it also improves the game for the better amateur player. The only change we made was to the straight pool shot of Bonus Ball. Input from all the pros and a major suggestion by Darren Appleton has made the game flow smoother and faster. That is a good thing in a timed game. I will have these changes up on my website by the end of this weekend. The basic game of Six-pocket Bonus Ball remains the same. It is perfect already for example, if you are an APA 4 or under eight ball player. It plays much the same as eight ball. However, any APA 5 or better would want to play the Advanced version of Bonus Ball. That is the same game as you will be seeing the professional play.

Here's a great tip. If you want to play a beginner player or someone that you would not enjoy playing because of your advanced skills, you play Advanced and they play Six-pocket Bonus Ball. You will be pleasantly surprised how much fun you both will have. It definitely beats one playing to seven games and the other playing to three games. It feels like your opponent has a much better chance to compete with you. They will quickly learn to keep the balls away from your three pockets and force you to be constantly shooting some very hard shots! It's a lot of fun! Remember though, you can't use the defensive shot because it would then nullify your lessor skilled players advantage. That is not what your looking for to have fun! That is where I have a problem. In no other game that I can think of (not saying there isn't one) do you play by one set of rules and shoot in certain pockets while I shoot in different pockets. Not even last pocket because once again it's not built on skill there, it's built on where you put a ball.

Not talking about one pocket, it's universal that each person gets a pocket and has nothing to do with skill level. You'll get confused viewers who wonder if this person needs to wear a big shirt with a red "A" on it for advanced and the other player wears a big shirt with a "6" on it so the audience and other player knows where he can leave him or what pockets he can shoot for.

So now the move for people is going to be get it so you can play six pocket and they have to play advanced. All kinds of sandbagging.

"[QUOTE If you want to play a beginner player or someone that you would not enjoy playing because of your advanced skills, you play Advanced and they play Six-pocket Bonus Ball"

I have ran so many eight ball tournaments and I never had sandbagging because I absolutely hate handi-caps and refused to have handi-caps. Period. The first time I knocked a player out of a local tournament when he won six games and I won two games by total fluke, I felt stupid winning like that! My Bonus Ball amateur tournament was not handi-capped and my league was not handi-capped. Players seemed to enjoy all the visits they got to the table and losing was not so punishing. Sitting around watching a great player run tables is not a lot of fun. I am all about having fun!

Allowing my casual playing bar box friend playing me with them playing six-pockets makes it way more fun. It will never be part of any amateur league of mine but it works when fooling around with friends. How about playing with the wife at home? This makes it much more fun for you and her. One huge thing I like about Bonus Ball is there is no way to win by fuke or by scratching. You must earn your wins. Unless you can actually out play your opponent, your not going to win. You better go home and practice your fundamentals and your shot making and strategies. That is what I believe in. Not handi-caps. I hate sandbagging as most do! Especially league. Again, that is how I feel, it might not be the way everyone feels. If you enjoy playing handi-cap leagues, that's fine with me!
