Boston Area?

Amazin Billiards (Malden I think), Billiards Cafe in Ayer (where I play), there is another room that was renamed around Brockton that is pretty good but don't remember what the new name is. Jillians is in Boston but it's not a very good room to play in, unless they changed things. Westgate Lanes in Brockton has 9' tables and has tournaments as well.

Flattop Johnnys has pool tables but last time I was there about 10 years ago they were really bad, slow cloth, setup too close to eachother and rails and pockets were not good.

There is also Snookers in RI, that may be a bit of a trip but they have a good Wed night tournament and all day specials.

Send me a PM, there is a great league in Ayer you can join, and they have the same league starting up in the Boston area but don't know what rooms they will be in.

This is the league facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/neusapoolleague

And the Boston area part, which also has the rooms they play in, but I'm guessing some of those are not real pool halls, maybe bars with tables. https://www.facebook.com/BostonUSAPoolLeague

Moving to Boston in a few weeks, wondering where I can play pool and also if there is any place where I can get cue tips replaced, thanks :)

I would drive to Somersworth, NH & go to Busters.....depends on where you'll be living ??

Busters

I'll say Busters also. One of the few old style poolrooms left around here.

Pluses: Good tables
Cheap rates
Friendly people

Minuses: Not many good players
Very little action

Depends what you're looking for. If you're a C player looking for competition and not that into gambling that would be the place. Have 8 & 9 ball leagues & a straight pool league with 25+ players.
Also in house repairs that are excellent.
Easy drive if you're on the north side of Boston. Not so good if you're south or west

I've been hitting Boston Billiard Club in Nashua lately, it's a pretty nice place with good food and service.

I lived in the city on Tremont st in 2008. There was NO pool scene in the city whatsoever. Kings, Jillian's and Boston billiards all had LOTS of 9' Gold Crowns but all of these establishments were full of college kids/drinkers. NO POOL PLAYERS AT ALL. Boston billiards next to Fenway has since closed for sure and Kings and Jillian's also may be closed now.... Stick to the suburbs.

Stix and Stones in Abington has some good weekly tournaments, Westgate Lanes, The Fan Club in Wareham has a Sunday Tourny, Wednesday Nights at Snooker's in RI while there ask @ for Mike Webb he will do cue repairs and retip cues. Plus he is a hell of a cue builder

Cue Repair

For cue repair and ALL kinds of other cue projects, Once again, Steve Therrien out of Busters is the best there is!
Busters is the only REAL POOLROOM left !

Boston Billiards in the 90s had some players, Rodney Morris stopped by there for action back then. There were some players there and you could see some gambling games mixed in with all the college kids. The BEST room in the area was Brighton Billiards, 8 super nice GC tables with tight pockets, long waiting list, smoke filled, bellow ground, entrance in a side alley, classic room. Lots of money games there, it's where I really learned to play pool after years of banging at balls in a place THINKING I was playing hehe. Caren Korr was there when she first came to the US, never seen her before, but years later I remembered her from there. Played a few games with her, she was either holding back or was just starting to learn 9 ball, she did not run out very well. Too bad the place is closed, one of two rooms I really miss from the 5 or 6 I played in that are closed in the area. The other was Chalks in RI where I took my son to play pool with him for the first time since it was all ages. Chalks is also the place that I picked up playing again after several years off and I've been playing a few times a week since, must be 6 years now since that time.

Left there in 2010, but there should still be a couple leagues out of Jillians, both in-house and nationally affiliated. They even put new cloth on the tables after we started playing there (after BBC closed). I can probably get you in touch with someone there if you're interested.

I know someone already mentioned Amazin billiards in Malden its a brand new Pool Room with a lot of good players and they do Cue Repair also and when I say brand new I mean brand new all the tables are Brand new and they take very good care of the Tables as well,,, they have a nine ball tournament every other Sunday I think been to a couple its a real fun time,, also in Stoneham theres a Private Club called the Redmen and they have really good tables as well and there are a lot of good players out of there and you will always find people playing there every night hope this helps

Amazin billiards 40 Faulkner St, Malden, MA 02148

Stoneham.....???

Stoneham, MA......Best player from that town was Lynn Sullivan, Bar Room 8-ball,...old school , BIH behind the line.... ..........Great defensive game, can't tell you how many times I saw him get someone on 3 fouls !.....and he had a stroke and a half!!:grin-square:

You can go straight up 93N to Salem NH and go to Grand China Billiards. Half the place is a restaurant and the other 1/2 is a pool room w/ gold crowns. Good B/C level competition, good environment and decent equipment. Mike Webb in Providence RI or Joe Callalucca in Hudson NH are as good as it gets when it comes to cue repair.

If you decide to give Buster's a try in Somersworth, NH send me a PM. I will play some with you. I am one of the few good players out of there. Nothing worse than driving quite some distance to check out a new pool hall only to find no one to play with.

Thanks guys for feedback. Was wondering if there are places in the Boston City but seems there is none. Will be trying to explore Busters and places around after I get settled in. Anyways, thanks again!

There is no good rooms in Boston, Boston Billiards was borderline with a mix of real players, but I do not know if anyone has been going to Jillians since BBC shut down.

Amazin is probalby the closest if you are living IN Boston, only 15 mins drive from center. Ayer is almost an hour, I drive 45 mins there from where I live near Worcester. And since I play there I like to plug it :-) Tables are not the best around, but the atmosphere is great and the players friendly with quite a few B players there, especially on Tuesday for the tournament and Wed for the Master's league. Not a lot of gambling there though, there are a few that play 3-6-9 for a few dollars but I never see anyone play for $20 sets or even $10, just that 3-6-9 game.

They have a tournament in Amazin every 3 weeks or so, good players there and the guy that does the handicapping is fair, or as fair as you can get without knowing every player that walks in and how they play against the others there.
