Box cues

I thought so too, but the joint collars and some of the rings are different if you look that the pics I posted and the ginacue Matt posted, you'll see the differences that I pointed out in a previous post.

I am wondering though if it would be possible to get a replica cue stick made, I imagine it would, but it would have a mighty pretty price tag to have it made.

I am planning on having a cue maker make a box cue for me.

Assuming I am a cuemaker would charge $2K for a 4 point 4 venner cue, what would you expect to pay for a veneered box cue?

Pics with examples would be good.

Thanks,

Ken

Back to your original question. I would expect the number of veneers used and number of boxes in the cue - both forearm and butt - to determine the price of the cue.

There is one (1) post I have found on "mitered windows" in the "ask the cuemaker" section of this forum dated 12-04-2006 that discusses the process.

If you look closely, some of these veneers are butt-jointed together and some have a 45-degree mitered look. I would expect you could select which look you want.

Some of these windows have very rounded corners and some are very sharp - just like points. I would expect you could select which you like.

Ivory windows will definately cost more than some other wood windows.

Some windows appear to use standard veneer thicknesses and others appear to have custom milled thicknesses using hardwoods rather than veneers.

In the end, the complexity and time required should determine how much each window cost - just like an inlay.

i have seen cues made both ways. most veneered boxs are on a 45 mitered but i saw a cue that had the loner veneer the full legnth and the shorter veneer inlayed next to it so the veneers kinda looked like steps. never seen boxes done like this but it was so different. i really liked it

Here's probably the 2 best images that I could get of this cue stick, as in the series episode, there wasn't any close enough camera angle showing the entire butt of the cue stick, and so, I just tried the best I could :)

I do know, that in the episode Al (Dean Stockwell) mentions, that it is 21oz, in weight made with Ebony and inlaid with MoP, but the this cue stick is a mystery, as I can't even find out who made this cue, to try and get a better picture of it, oh well, I liked the challenge of finding a few good pics at least :)

Except for the ring above the handle, it looks very much like a box cue that Bill Stroud was making in the late 70's.

Maybe Ibuycues can chime in if it is the same design or cue.

Here is a good shot of the Josswest. The cue in question looks very close to this as far as I can tell!

Yep, that's "Alberta" right there, as I recognice the joint collars and the silver line inlays that run from the smaller ivory boxes :)

Thank you for posting the pic, Matt, some rep point for you sir :)

You would be shocked at how much cue Pete will provide for very reasonable money. I have seen many examples of his work; his fit and finish is superb. Inlays, mitered veneers, recuts...he builds a gorgeous box cue. He is working on a fancy quilted maple box cue with snakewood for me now.
