Boyes pulling a very questionable move on Daulton

Jeeese... I am glad a cud spark such a discussion! Since I am a European tard too, I cant really speak about Golf.... ;)

To be clear; I am sure that according to the rule book, Karl is definitely within his rights calling a foul. No doubt whatsoever here. But as someone stated, it is about sportsmanship and a certain code of conduct. All these guys have played thousands of racks in their life. They immediately know if the cue ball is in danger of scratching. This was absolutely not the case in the instance in question. I wud feel so ashamed winning a match by enforcing a rule that actually shud be delt with with a degree of common sense.

It is interesting how many people described Karl in a negative way. I never met him personally. A good friend of mine though was once in Spain at the Eurotour, when he was in the same pool bar in the evening and said that he was an arrogant ass! I had no reason to doubt...This - and for me it is definitely one - move sort of confirms my friend's story and the general impression I got from watching Karl in 2D.

If Shannon in fact did the same in an other match, ok, so be it. Then I wud (actually shud as of now) dislike him in the future too. But I can forgive, and u sometimes dont know, what had happened in the past between the two players. There is always a little history.

No wrong answer here... Two schools of thought

1. Letter of the law
2. Spirit of the rule

I'm a #2 guy and think Boyes was being a nit there. It's within his right to do so. Pool isn't Golf, golf has 100+ entrants so the idea of a "gimme" doesn't work because the other 96+ players can't see what putt is being given. Pool is pool, played among 2 people who are both watching the action and can use judgement.

No chance that ball scratches or comes in the general vicinity of a pocket. If you disagree then you're probably #1, which is okay too.

Edit to notice you're asking about his first foul. Couldn't hear them talk. I believe he didn't deny hitting it, but was under the impression cue ball had stopped. This is just my assumption from the announcers painting us a picture with their words.

No. He made the 3ball (I believe) and was bridged over the 4ball. He was walking around to shoot the 4 when something was said/asked and he looked at Boyes and hit the cue ball with his stick and walked to his seat. I didn't see if he actually hit it or not.

If this in fact happened and there was only one ball left on the table ... regardless if it was game ball or not the rules of 14.1 state that play is suspended until the balls are re-racked and thefore Boyes was not following the rules - since he has his defenders on here regarding being a stickler for the rules.
 
Had this very thing happen to me in a BCA State tournament in Colorado. Shooter fouls and I call it. He denies it. Spectators back me up. TD says call goes to the shooter because we didn't have a ref. I forfeit the match and go on to win the tournament.[/QUOTE]

Being this is a tournament filled with elites and professionals, and pool being a gentleman's game, Boyes could've warned Daulton about this but not call the ref.

As a matter of fact I was using an aiming method taught to me by Hal Houle.

Thanks for bringing it up. It was the precursor to CTE which is the most objective and accurate way to aim that I know of.

a little more OT:

Is anyone hearing this pretty annoying humming noise too? It is going away from time to time and then coming back. For instance, I cannot hear Dany at all!

Yes. Awful. I turned the sound off cause it was so bad. And changing, sometimes kinda loud so I'd turn the volume up and then...BAM! The humming would get much louder. Very very very annoying.
 
thx for confirming. so at least it is not on my end (which i was actually pretty sure of). I emailed Jim, but I am sure he is pretty busy. I mentioned it already yesterday. But it has gotten significantly worse today!

I truly hope they get on top of it. It is hard to enjoy right now...

I threw my computer out the window three stories to the ground and I can still hear the humming.
