LOL...I won my handicapped 14.1 league. I think that makes it 5 of 7 or somewhere there abouts. :thumbup:

It was a tough session & it came down to the final match (I was tied with another player after 15 weeks). We played for all the marbles & I prevailed to win my league again. :grin-square:

I encourage ALL levels of players to participate in my league & I put myself in the highest ranks so no one thinks I'm taking any advantage. I had to give out as much as 110 points going to 150! :eek:

The league has some serious followers in my area now & we are starting up another session in a month to keep everyone playing throughout the summer. On top of that, I'm running a 1P league concurrently! It's gonna be a busy summer for me...lots of statistical work!

Just having a little fun "bragging". I hope no one take this too seriously, OK? :)
 
BEAT: My League System Got XEROXED

I've gotta balance my "brag" post with a "beat", right?

My 14.1 league is popular enough in my area that one of my participants attempted to copy it at another local poolhall...word for word, chart by chart!

He went so far as to take my binder full of stuff to his home for 4 days, xerox everything, & white-out the references to me/the poolroom & scribble his info in. What's that about sincerest form of flattery?!?!

I called him out on it & he cried "innocent"...he was just trying to do me a favor by bringing it to my house which he never did, said he didn't like being called a "thief" (as he was handing my binder back to me in front of a crowd!!!!), stormed off, changed a few things...recreated my excel prints in pen so they looked like his own work, and started his league anyway.

He spread a $hit-pot full of lies that I was "sanctioning" the league and that I gave him permission to do this & that. I haven't seen a dollar from him...not that I want it.

He still uses a xerox of my scoresheet to this day (which he says I d/l'ed off the net whenever someone asks why it looks exactly the same as mine...with some white-out of course). Meanwhile, the scoresheet was built, by me from scratch, in excel.

His buddies tell me that I should have copyrighted it & tough $hit if I didn't want someone to copy it. It's not about copyrights, it's about doing the right & honorable thing.

EDIT: I should also mention that I am real proud of the players. They are learning a lot (read: running more balls) about a game that I love & isn't played enough IMO. Several people posted all-time high runs in this session!

try to don t care too much about it- it just shows, how good your *work* is.
Just sad, that this guy just haven t got the balls and just ask you about to do this? I m sure you would have answered just "Yes sure".

Thanks, Ingo. I have helped other people develop their own leagues. Right here on AZB, I've given out my handicapping charts & such for both my 14.1 league and my 1P league. I recognize that it saves good people a lot of time & heartache. Bad people? Well, they can do it themselves.

I've given out my "primer" too which is an presentation I give to all new players to show them so of the basic ideas about break shots/key balls, position/pattern play, the general rules, safety play...this makes sure incoming players don't get frustrated by this new-to-them game.

Mosconiac: It sounds like you are doing a fine job there developing the league and teaching the players the finer points of the game we all love.

We have always been free and easy with our score sheets at the IBC and at Red Shoes. When I started at Red Shoes, they were using a printed schedule with the handicaps that you received at the beginning of the league and that was it. You had to take people at their word as to how their handicap had adjusted and you might not even know who was winning or what the records were until all the games were played. We started changing and giving out more info and Rich93 now has developed the League schedule nicely with a self adjusting handicap, win loss total, etc., that has results inputted weekly. I know that Rich has sent the form to Wink who is using it for his Chicago Nomads wandering straight pool league and that he also sent it out to California where Michael Taylor started a league based on the Illinois Billiard Club.

Anyway, Congrats on your league and your finishes. I know how tough those victories can be when you are spotting so many balls and one mis step might result in a loss. Very tense.

Anybody that would like to see our Excel league schedule/scoresheet is welcome to it. Send me a PM with your email address. Dennis designed it and it's a very nice design. I merely made changes underneath the skin.

It only takes a few minutes each week to update it once I have the results. The time-consuming part is setting up the round-robin schedule at the beginning of league - the more players the longer it takes. You can do it by hand - the link below explains how. There's a simple procedure (algorithm) that you must follow:

Doing it by hand allows you to accommodate some simple requests, e.g., "I'm going to be out of town the third week - can you schedule me with a bye that week, or can you schedule me against a retired guy who's easy to do a makeup with?" There can't be too many of these or you'll tie yourself in knots, but there never has been.

Right... because getting it copyrighted would have stopped them from using it. If you buy that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn and some lovely land in Florida for sale as well.

For the record, I would love a 14.1 league like yours in my town.

...and the game keeps thriving. By popular demand, I'm immediately kicking off another session (next week). The players have asked me to resurrect my 1P league too, so we're running them concurrently! How's that for summertime interest in pool? :thumbup:

Great Job promoting 14.1 as always.

Why don't you come up to Red Shoes for the Qualifier.

#1 You play well enough to have a chance.

#2 Even if you have no interest in going to the Worlds, it would be nice to meet you and you could hang with George Fels, Sailor Stellman and other 14.1 greats.

You could even bring some of your players on a road trip to see how the other half lives. :D
