Wow that is sad. Anybody know what I should do about this? I can't really go to Ebay without this guys ebay handle. Did he include that as well?

Nope, no handle - it was just a straight email. I don't know that you can do anything - these usually come from countries that turn a blind eye to such stuff.

I have had several that look like that over the past 4 years. It seems to happen when ever I bid on high dollar items.
I have seen may e-mails with second chance offers on items I lost.
But never in my time have a seen one where some one else contacted me about stopping the auction right now and to take my high bid.
And the someone is not even involved in the auction.

I guess it does not surprise me at all but still bugs the hell out of me that this goes on and that e-bay continues to erode with these types of e-mails and some shady transactions.

Your current high bidder has zero feedback. When someone with no feedback bids on a high dollar item, the seller usually requires them to make contact with them to confirm they are the real deal or else cancel the bid. Many times it is ok, but it could be a deadbeat who has just trumped a "real" bidder who is no longer going to win the auction.

It could still be legit, but I would check it out. We all started out with no feedback on ebay, and all could be ok but, again, I would make sure.

I agree with you. I'd check out a bidder with zero feedback on an item that's in the price range of this cue. It's probably OK, but i'd cancel it if the bidder wounldn't talk to me by email or telephone and I was comfortable with how they sounded!

I agree. Actually I put that in the auction, but didn't make it large enough. I will take care of this when I get home for lunch, and his bid will be canceled if I don't here back from him within 24 hrs.

We'll see what happens. I'm pretty impressed with the price so far though!

Unfortunately with the auction running I'm not able to email them through eBay, so I had to cancel their bids. I hope that's not too harsh, but better safe than sorry. If they contact me then I will re-evaluate and possibly un-block them from the auction. If not, oh well.

I could have sent them and email to their regular address, but with the latest scam email I read (posted above), I'm not going outside of eBay with this auction.

Again, I apologize if that sounds harsh, but I want to protect the item and make sure it goes to a credible bidder. It says right at the bottom of the auction to email prior to bidding if you have zero feedback, and neither of them did. I will make that part MUCH bigger next time I do an eBay auction.

Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate the input.

yeah.. you may be better off taking alittle less money with no headaches then go through the run around of a non payer and the relist..

but i doubt that will be case.. i am sure there are alot of people holding the trigger till the last minute.. nobody ever wants to pay more then they have to but nobody will know till the end..

Have to agree...
Not worth the headache and the hassle of waiting for the funds or to be contacted.
I am sure that there may be some all set up to snipe this cue away at the last second...

Myron

Well I got an email from Themanova, and he seems legit, so I've taken him off my blocked bidder list. We'll see what happens with that one.

I'm still thinking there are going to be at least a couple sniper bids on a cue this nice. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what the end bid will be.

Here's a quick question for you all. I had a guy email me from eBay, who is a legit person, with 18 feedback ratings at 100%. He wanted to buy the cue outright and wanted it shipped to Japan.

I gave him a price of several hundred over what the auction is at now to cover PayPal fees and International shipping. He sent me money via paypal, but it was under a different email address that was for a non-verified member.

My question is: Would you trust this guy and send him the cue?

Apparently he lives in the US, but the customer of his lives in Japan, and that's why he asked about shipping there.

Doesnt sound on the up and up to me. Should have asked for a Money Order.

I do not have any first hand experience with the situation you outlined above.
I have only heard of some horror stories.
This is what I have read about:

I have heard of situations just like you mentioned where the payment is made via Paypal, the cue is shipped and later the payment is removed back from the account because they claim that the cue was never received.
The seller losses the cue and the funds are non-recoverable.

Do you trust someone?
To a non-verified account, sending it to another address, and out of the country – More Than Likely Not I.
I would refund the funds and ask for a USPS Money order to ship the cue right away or use Western Union.
Any other form of payment (money orders from banks or certified checks included) shall be deposited until all the funds clear.
Bogus money orders and certified checks have been used as well so that is one reason for the USPS Money Order.
Get the money and ship the cue...

But that is only my opinion.
Myron

Thanks guys. That was my gut feeling, too.

I sent the guy an email (to both email addresses) saying that I would not do business with a non-verified member. I then shot him an invoice to the email address he has tied to his eBay account, and said that I would ship it to him (if HE was a verified member) in the US and HE could send it overseas if he wanted. I also adjusted the shipping to fit that new offer.

Again, I hate to end the auction early, but the offer was quite a bit higher than the auction is at now. It's still not worth the possibility of getting screwed. If I don't hear back from him, I guess it was a scam!

Does my counter offer sound fair though?

Reasonable and fair to both parties.
Good Luck and hopefully everyone will be satisfied.

More than fair, I'd say. You've gone a few extra steps to make it a smoothe transaction for the alleged buyer. Hope it's legit, and you get what you were offered for it. I would imagine most folks would just assume "scam,"...and with a strong arguement to that effect...and just ignore him/her. You, however, are giving them the benefit of the doubt. Nice.

yeah.. i would say the japan buyer is a scam... usually they tell you they want to pay with a valid company check from a us company and usually its for more then you want because the check was already made out for another reason...

anyways.. i got a scam second chance offer today myself...
apparently i can buy a cue EXACTLY like yours for $1100 USD so there is no way i am going to try and win yours when i could but it for less then half the price..lol.. i wonder how many people they actually get with these rediculous emails..lol..

here is a copy of it..

Gee - I should have bid on it so I too can get one for almost half of what it will sell for.
A couple of these and I will have a lock on the cue stock market.
