Branding in Pool

Its a sport not a brand. There is no logo. The thought simply does not apply.

If you want to represent the sport with an "icon" then the obvious answer is a peice of the equiptment. Pool ball, rack or cue. Such as it would be for any other sport....ball, bat or club.

The McDermott Shanrock

I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet. I've never owned a McDermott.

Most recognizable is the Brunswick Logo.

TAR
Very recognizable to us hard core fans.

I'm working on a job about brand names and icons. For example, the rabbit icon is famous around the world for Playboy. Then you have the Nike swoosh, the Golden Arches of McDonald's, the red cross of the International Red Cross.

What do you think is the most recognizable icon of a pool brand? Just curious. Do you think branding is important?

I think the M form mcdonalds has the most international recognition. I think pool needs one, but who's property would it be?

I do think it would be great,

take care

The Nike Swoosh. Sweet and simple and everybody immediately knows what it is.

People sometimes make up domain names using the names of famous people in order to capture the eyeballs of people who search for those famous names...In any event Deno should be willing to transfer ownership to you for free....

Interestingly, Deno contacted me yesterday. He must have read this thread or else somebody told him about it.

He explained how he came upon Keith's domain name and a few others. At one time, there was another entity that was going to buy up all the names of players for reasons that were not pool friendly, so Deno bought as many as he could to block that entity from doing whatever they were going to do.

At any rate, botton line, Deno was very gracious and said he would be very happy to transfer the domain name to Keith whenever Keith wanted it -- for free. He is not only generous, but Deno Andrews always had been, and still is, a gentleman.

I knew there was something about that Deno kid that was special the very first time I read him on RSB! In a nutshell, he's got class.

I think you misunderstood the thread. It wasn't really that pool needed an icon or logo, but rather it was that I was interested to see what pool-related products did have logos *and* which ones were the most successful.

I still say that for me, it's the golden tiger of Predator. When they first came to the fore, they "gifted" many, many -- and I mean many pool player with free Predator break cues and patches. It may have been expensive to do that, but it was a good marketing technique. To this day, Predator is one of the top names in the pool industry. ;)
