Break Balls??

There was another post that mentioned a pair of what was described as clay break balls. I have a pair of them that came with an old table I got years ago just like the other poster. What has me a little confused is the size of these balls. 1 is much larger than the other. As a matter of fact the smaller one [2.113 in.] is closest to, though a little smaller, than a snooker ball and the larger [2.220] is closer to, though a little smaller, than a reg ball. If indeed they are break balls they have to be a set. One for snooker and one for regulation balls. Anyone shed some light on my theory? Don

Let me start off by declaring that I am no expert. I am assuming that most people here know that they are called break balls because they would replace your good cue ball when you broke the rack so you did not damage it. Many cue balls were ivory back then. The break balls that I have collected are different sizes also, and not very round. In fact some look to be almost hand rolled. These balls were used once per game and then replaced immediately after the break so I don't think weight, roundness or even exact size was a huge issue. Generally snooker breaks are not hard shots so using your good ball may have not been a problem. I kind of doubt that those balls were made to be a set. One thing is for sure they are heavy and tough, I also love that color. Thanks for the pics and lets hope someone who knows more then me helps out:).
 
Hey Donny. Looks like I will be up the for the tourny next month. Made plans to head that way yesterday.
