Break Cue or another Shooting Cue?

My budget is very limited as I just recently purchased a cue, I need another cue to fit in my case...lol...that empty spot is just killing me.:thumbup:

I was wondering if I should drop money on a break cue or buy one of those cheap $50 - $100 shooting cues to break with. The reason for this is because I can have another cue for the significant other to shoot with...she is starting to love shooting with my newly acquired cue and we would rotate between shots.:(

Is their a signifcance from break cue compared to breaking with a shooting cue? For the money of a break cue...why not have another shooting piece?

If you are old & are just gonna play around... get another play cue. If you are young, but want a special tool, for a special job, get a goof Break Cue. You will have it a long time...

The main reason I only carry one playing cue with me is because we can only use one cue at a time.

I look at cues like a look at golf clubs, to some degree. I only have one driver, one 7-iron and one putter in the bag because I wouldn't gain anything by having two. I can only use one at a time, so there is no need to carry multiple clubs that perform the same shot.

My case holds 3 cues. I carry a player, a breaker and a jump. I wouldn't take one out for an extra playing cue, because I already have a player to use for most shots... no need for another cue to do that job when I can use the spot in the case to better a different part of my game.

Keep in mind that all of the above is based purely on logic. Because you mentioned a significant other, it's quite possible that all logic has been tossed out the window long ago. If that is the case, I have one piece of advise:

BUY HER A CUE OF HER OWN... AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

If you like your cue, you will have to keep her away from it. Get her a cheap player and call it a day. Heck, get her a pink one... who cares... as long as your player stays in your hands... mission accomplished.

If you don't mind sharing... get a break cue... J&J makes a pretty darn good one that is quite affordable.

If you want to solve all of your problems, get a new case that will hold 3-4 cues. Then you will have room for your player, her player and a breaker! :D

You are right and I have always wanted to get something to break with besides a house cue.

I am always thinking of others and thought I would have another shooter that I can lend for people without a cue.

Mikey has some great advice, but I disagree about the case that holds 3-4 cues IF you're getting it to carry your significant other's cue around also.

Get her a cue and a case of her very own. I've seen it happen where someone messed up the threads because they didn't realize that all the shafts wouldn't fit on "their" cue.

Better safe than sorry.

My shafts are wood threads too and I know she can tell the difference.

She's actually pretty good and shot with my past cues but this new one is expensive to me and it's a lighter cue. She is liking the specs of it too and can make 3 to 4 balls easy with it.:confused:

She has said she doesn't want her own cue because mine shoots just fine and she can use that....:(
 
I agree with everyone else. Get her a cue of her own, and tell her it's in case you both get into a tournament (even a low-key fundraiser or some such) and are playing at the same time. She needs to have something she's used to playing with that isn't gonna be in your hands at the same time.

Then buy yourself a break cue. :)

I also have a J&J Jump/Break and I like it a lot. It is a very inexpensive cue and works great. If you get serious about it, you can always get a fancier model later, but this way you have something dedicated to breaking that is consistent (as opposed to using a house cue to break with) and it'll save a little wear and tear on the tip of your player.
 
The main difference between a break cue and a player cue is the tip. Put a phenolic tip on a house cue and it will smash the rack.

I don't know what kind of playing cue you have now, but if it works, just stay with it. If it doesn't have a real tip on, put one on.

I also depends on how good your game is. For example, I could never justify myself getting a good break cue when I can't run a rack of 9 ball on an open table after the break. But a cheap break cue would do the job if you just don't want to break with your player or the house cue. Try J&J break cues, they are cheap and effective.

Get a J&J. you'll never regret it. they break great. jump well and it'll keep you more consistent because you won't have another playing cue to adjust to.
 
I'll throw in another vote for the J&J. I just had my phenolic tip shaved off and replaced with a Water Buffalo. I like it a lot.
