Hey guys here is my current dilemma. I just bought a new predator road line sp6on. Now I am looking to upgrade out of my j&j j/b. here's what I got in the case/closet. DP with OB classic and original shaft, j&j j/b, and an old black meucci with a no dot shaft (first cue ever, acquired when I was 12). I'm not really interested in getting rid of the Meucci, it's worth more to me than the market.

Would you liquidate the DP setup and j&j to fund a better break cue?

Or

Take a standing offer to swap the OB classic for an OB break that fits the DP even up?

Am I going to see a significant difference in results?

I know financially the swap is the best option because there is no money lost

I have had a Ob break cue for a while now and I love it. Not sure if the break shaft will play different on a different butt or not. But I can highly recommend the OB break cue so I would go with getting the OB break shaft and saving some money.
 
I have down graded (I thought) to a j&j j/b to free up cash and fund other things. I love it. Breaks better then a lot of cues I've tried, not the best but better then many. It also jumps lights out. I don't know if you have the same experience with yours but if your going to replace it my experience with j/b's is get a Gilbert. That's why I sold my lucasi j/b. The deal fell through so in order not to spend all my money on a replacement until I find another one I like I bought the j&j. I might just save my money for now.
 
Doing the swap depends on how comfortable you are with the weight and balance of the DP for breaking. If it feels good to you, do the swap. If not, sell it and the J&J, but realistically you probably have all you need in the J&J.
 
If your current breaker is working for you why change, especially with most of the pool world trending to a softer more scientific mathematical break. I think the object is no longer to crush the rack as much as it is to just get a runnable spread and make a ball.
But really, if your current breaker is working for you, I think you just leave it be
 
Thanks for all the replies so far guys. My thoughts are definitely a little beyond materialistic ownership of a "nicer" break cue. The j&j does work "good" I'd say. Its got a samsara on it, so it feels decent but I personally feel like it lacks control. Ive broke many times with the ob classic on the dp, and had really good results. I believe its because I can control the cue ball better. That's what has me leaning towards replacing the j&j. I dont need the 2nd ld shooting shaft and figured id make a move with it. Guess I should do the swap for the ob break...

Or just break with your current OB shaft.
 
Put a Samarsa (or other hard tip) on the OB/DP combo and use it as a break cue. I've got an OB Break Cue and it's great, but the OB/DP should do just as well (maybe better since the Classic is a stiffer shaft). The biggest difference would be wrap (DP) vs. wrapless (OB).

contact JADEN , he is a friend of mine that have developed his own break tip. I was using a Samsara on my Ob break cue and liked it but I switched to one of Jaden`s break tips and love it. Tell him I sent you

Are you saying I should try this tip on the classic? Or put it on the break shaft?

This is probably what I'd tell you. ^^^^^^^^^^^

I'll never forget the first time I had an opportunity to break with a high-end (not going to go THERE by naming it) break cue. Man, was I ever disappointed...and darn glad that it wasn't ME that dropped the big bucks for it. I have since tried a few other high to semi high-end dedicated break cues...and have yet to be overly impressed. I also have a custom-built dedicated break cue, and while it is good...breaks a rack of balls no better than a $72 Action J/B cue that I have in not one, but THREE of my cases.

IMO, "you get what you pay for" does NOT apply to break cues. YMMV.
