Break Cue

I break with my playing cue. It's a Predator (3K-4), with a Moori (hard) tip, 18 oz. It breaks great for me. Allot of people say it's the cue that break, but I think most of it is what's behind the cue. If you don't hit it right, with a good force, then it won't break good, no matter which cue you use...but that's just my $0.02

my break cue
a friend of mine has a custom made cue that i will put up against a sledge hammer any day of the week. they break good.. especially the new ones.. but they are by far not the best cue in my oppinion. but oppinions are like teeth... just about everyone has one or more... but when im not using his break cue i use my schon... it breaks um up pretty good as well.

I scuff my sledge just a teeeeeeny bit. I can break ok with the Sledge or with my Scruggs. With the TS, I can control the cue ball a little better than with the Sledge. I think it's because the leather tip grabs the cue ball more. With the Sledge, I can move a rack around MUCH better, though. I use the Sledge mostly when breaking for one pocket. First pocket a ball goes in is mine, right?

You have to definately chalk the sledgehammer. Phrenolic tips are notorious for miscuing if you dont adequately chalk them. I scuff mine to hold chalk better because sometimes it doesnt hold chalk but I dont do it too much because I dont want to ruin it. It is definately one of the because break cues out there. If you ever have the chance to try one you will see why.

I played in a tournament today, and I made it a point not to chalk my sledgehammer during one match. I never miscued. However, I had chalked it previously, and probably will continue to do so just because it one of my mannerisms at the table, and I think it slows me down a bit, which is what I want.
